Bylaw Came Into Effect on November 19,
1973
BYLAW NO. 26, 1973
A Bylaw to provide regulations for the
prevention and spread of fire
The Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Exeter hereby ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. From and after the passing of this Bylaw, no person shall
set fire to, burn or cause or permit to be burned'any shavings,
chips, straw, leaves, paper or any other combustible matter;
(a) in or on any of the streets, parks or public property of
the said Town, or
(b) on any private property
except in barbecues so located and constructed that no
building or structure or inflammable matter may become ig-
nited through the use thereof.
2. On special occasions, persmission in writing may first be
obtained from the Fire Chief or Acting Fire Chief of the Fire
Department of the Town of Exeter, for any burning, and then
only subject to such terms and conditions as are stated in the
permission.
3. Nothing in this bylaw shall be deemed to authorize or
permit the commission of a nuisance.
4. Any person convicted of a breach of any of the provisions
of this Bylaw shall forfeit and pay at the discretion of the con-
victing magistrate, a penalty not exceeding (exclusive of costs)
the sum of fifty dollars ($50.00).
5. THAT this Bylaw shall come into force and take effect on
the final passing thereof,

Staffa Women's Institute held a
memorable evening Wednesday
when they celebrated their 70th
birthday party. Joining with the
Institute members were 4-H
leaders and members and
friends.
Presiding for the program was
Miss Vera Hambley, a life
member, who after welcoming
the guests opened the evening
with the Institute Ode and Mary
Stewart Collect, and an an-
niversary poem.
Staffa No, 1 4-H members
presented a skit, "Lets' get ready
to block print" and Staffa No. 3
setting up their exhibit on "Five
Designs with one block" with
Debbie Winteringham giving the
commentary.
Two musical numbers were
enjoyed by all, Valeria and
Marlene Glanville, Thames
Road, singing Funny Face and
Proud Mary and accompanying
themselves on their guitars.
A humorous reading, "a
wedding slightly mixed" was
given by Olive Speare. Mrs. Tom
Scott, entertained with 2 solos
accompanying herself on the
autoharp.
Everyone enjoyed local pic-
tures and pictures of England
and Scotland shown by Mrs.
Mervin Dow, Cromarty.
Mrs. Penelope Fell (a life
member) presented a life
membership to Miss Olive Speare
who has recently moved to
Mitchell. The president Mrs.

trillium cups and saucers to four
4-H girls who had each completed
twelve 4-H clubs and received
their provincial honors.

Mrs. John Miller presided for
business, when final plans were
made for the New Years Eve
Family Dance in the township
hall. Mrs. Carter Kerslake gave a
report on the recent executive
banquet. A letter was read from
the W.I. adopted girl. Mrs. Miller
introduced Mrs. Jean McKay
Dublin, who displayed and
demonstrated many lovely
Christmas decorations, made
from spools, eggs, styrofoam,
sequins, felt etc.
Mrs. Spencer Jeffery presented
gifts to Mrs. Charles Douglas and
Mrs. John Wallace leaders of the
course, "more ideas for sewing
knits" which over n ladies had
just completed.
Highlight of the evening was
the cutting of the birthday cake
by three life members Mrs.
Penelope Fell, Miss Vera
Hambley and Miss Olive Speare
after which cake and ice-cream
and tea was served by the
hostessess, Mrs. Russell Worden,
Mrs. Penlope Fell, Mrs. Charles
Douglas, Mrs. Lloyd Miller and
Mrs. John Templeman.
