T-A photo Ayr Saturday friends and relatives honored Mr. & Mrs. Herman Langford, RR 3, Lucan, Hy. 4, on the occasion of their 35th wedding anniversary. Guests were present from Windsor, Essex, Woodstock, Aylmer, London and from the local area. Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott & son, Mr. Arthur Abbott, have returned from a holiday on Manitoulin Island where they were the guests of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Abbott. Damages were listed at $3,000 in four accidents investigated this week by officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Vehicles being driven by Roy Minister's wife passes away The funeral of Martha Edna MacDougall, wife of the late Rev. Kenneth McGoun, was held November 23 from the Murdy Funeral Home with interment in St. James Cemetery, Clan- deboye. Mrs. McGoun lived on Alice St. most of her early life and worked at the Ross Drygoods store for many years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and sang in the choir until the time of her marriage to Rev. McGoun. He was transferred to- the Clinton Parish and they lived in Clinton until his retirement when they moved to Broughdale. After the death of her huspapd, Mrs. McGoun sold the ''Broughdale home and moved into a Dufferin St. apartment until her recent illness. Mrs. McGoun supported at least two foster children over- seas, was most interested in the W.A. work of the church and was a life member of Holy Trinity W.A., Lucan, The service was conducted by Archdeacon L.A. Nelles, assisted by Rev. T,M. B. Parker, and the pallbearers were Roy Hodgins, Cliff Shipley, Ken Carter, John Park , Frank and Cliff McGoun. Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott, ac- companied by Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Needham were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Needham, RR 1, Arva. Mrs. A,W. Thompson spent the weekend with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs, Robert G. Wilson, Burlington. Mr. & Mrs. Leo Brueckner, Hespeler-Cambridge, were weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs. Keith Dickson, McRoberts, Granton and Gordon E. Brooks, RR 1, Lucan collided at the corner of Main and Market streets in Lucan Friday evening at 7.45 p.m. Constable W.R. Disher listed damages at $200, At exactly the same time Saturday night, damages of $1,600 were reported when vehicles driven by Royston W. Cox, Kingston and Christina Cornish, 183 Beech street, Lucan collided on Highway 4, south of the Lieury road. Constable Disher again investigated. At 10.45 p.m. Saturday a vehicle driven by Keith Barrington, 459 Main street, Exeter went out of control on Highway 4, north of Mooresville when it swerved to avoid an animal. Constable N.A. Campbell in- vestigated and set damages at $220. The only Sunday mishap caused damages of $1,000 when vehicles driven by Larry Joseph Hopkins, RR 3, St, Marys and Diana Lucy Warren, 118 Fundy Avenue, Lond.pn collided, Constable : .Campbell in- vestigated the accident which occurred on Middlesex County Road 23, just south of Concession 9-10 in London township. Anglican church news At the morning prayer service Rev. John Hofland spoke on the Christian year having a profound meaning. It is built around the Life of Christ and with the Prayer Book, is layed out for guidance as a set of rules to aid in Christian life. Archdeacon Foreman, London, formerly of Beech St., Lucan, underwent surgery in West- minster Hospital last Thursday. Ewart Powe, London, formerly , of RR 1, Lucan, is seriously ill in Westminster Hospital and his sister, Mrs. Ada Walker, also of London, entered University Hospital Monday. Former Lucanites paying their respects to Mrs. Kenneth McGoun at the Murdy Funeral Home last week included Mr. & Mrs, Fred Ford, Mrs. Lang de Coursey and Miss H. de Coursey, Detroit, Rev. & Mrs. E.O. Lan- caster, Miss L.E. Abbott, Jean Bilyea, Holly Martin, Mrs. Wm. Westney, Col. Duncan Ross, Mrs. Howard Cranston, Eileen Cranston and Mrs. Gordon McDonald, all of London. Mr. & Mrs. Horace Legg and Mrs. Mildred Stoner, Watford were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prince. Mrs. Prince wishes to thank the members of the Sunshine Club for their lovely plant and card. Mrs. Catherine Fischer, George Street, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stanlake, Komoka. Coming home on Sunday afternoon she found guests Mrs. Wm. Varga, Marie, Danny and Betty, and Mr, & Mrs. Ray Fischer, London, awaiting her arrival. Mrs. T.C. McFarlane, formerly of Lucan, who has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital was welcomed back last Friday by her McCormick Home friends. Following the death of her husband, William Westney, Brookwood, Mrs. Westney moved to London last week to make her home with her sister, Holly Martin, both formerly of Lucan. Institute theme on resolutions The Lucan Branch of the F.W.I.O. held its November meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Hardy, Sr., with Mrs. James Lockyer as assisting hostess. The theme for the meeting was "Resolutions" with convener, Mrs. Frances Saward reading resolutions passed at last year's Area Convention, taken from the report of F.W.I.O. President, Mrs. Austin Zoeller. Mrs. Saward also spoke on the motto "Let us see our own faults as clearly as we see the faults of others". There will be no discrimination in the Lucan area if the members of the Institute carry out all of the answers to the roll call "What I can do to discourage discrimination". Mrs. L. Ashton gave "Five Minutes on the Handbook" outlining various F.W.I.O. bylaws, Mrs. Tom Emery Sr. reported on the Area Convention held at the Banqueter. A singsong was enjoyed, with President Mrs. Harold Snelgrove, at the piano, and the "mystery" prize was won by Mrs. L, McGuffin. Visitors attend Lions meeting Several. guests from Exeter and Ilderton clubs attended the Monday meeting of the Lucan and District Lions Club, when Gordon Sanderson of . "Sound Off" was the guest speaker. He told of many interesting, and often humorous, letters received at the column. The Booster Draw was won by Bill Giesen, Clarence Haskett and Don Leitch. Lion Clare Stanley announced that the Lucan ,Hydro Com- mission is going to underwrite the cost of having the hydro hooked up for Fair, '73, by Jim Freeman. A short executive meeting with Zone Chairman, Lion Keith Grigg of Ilderton, was held following the general meeting. I understand there will Church News United A "hymn-sing", led by Mrs. Ewart Madden, was enjoyed by members and friends at the United Church service Sunday morning. Mr. Madden took as his theme "To heal the broken-hearted". He said "Our extremity is often God's opportunity to come in and bless us. Being broken-hearted is not just being wounded, but is a state of complete mental, spiritual and physical helplessness. God comes in and says 'I will heal your past' and brings a new experience of His love." All young people of high school age are invited to an evening of music with "The Friends" folk singing group, at a coffee house, at the United Church Friday evening. Pentecostal Holiness Rev. John Bend, Toronto, was guest speaker at both services on Sunday at the Pentecostal Holiness Church. At the morning service he pointed out that Jesus Christ is more than a brother to us. He is our advocate, our refuge, our guide, our healer and our com- forter, but we must receive Him as our Saviour. Mr. Bend wants everyone to let the world know that Jesus lives. Rick Thornton led in the singing and Marlene Butler was the soloist. At the evening service, Mr. Bend's theme was "The return of Our Lord". It was a very stirring message pointing out that we must not be like the "foolish virgins" who were not ready when their Lord came.
