Shortage of goals in the Atom

goalies are too good or the for-
wards are shooting into his pads
or quite possibly they need some
shooting because they are

problem is I am sure it will
rectify itself as time rolls by and

was the hero for Conklin Lumber
as he scored both goals as his
team went on to defeat
Lankamps Esso'2-0.
The second game was a repeat
performance of the first game as
Bill Simmons of Cowans BP
scored the only goal of the game
to defeat Taylor Motors 1-0.
Four of our teams travelled to
Petrolia last Saturday, Atoms,
pee wee, bantam and midgets
and the Atom team coached by
Ron Horn and Jack Underwood
was the only team to come home
with a victory.
By comments I received from
our players and coaches Petrolia
played a very rugged type of
hockey and had our teams on the
defensive most of the games.
The Jr. Hawks lost the Friday
game here to Tavistock by a

with short handed crew

way but were unable to withstand
the pressure in the last few
minutes.f the game as Tavistock

On Sunday the Hawks travelled
to Lambeth where the game
ended tied at three goals each.
This Friday Mitchell is here for
their first appearance of the
season. Their last encounter
ended in an 8-2 victory for the
Hawks, The game was played in
Mitchell,
The Rec league is off to a good
start with four teams, Le Pines,
Newby, Sr, Hawks and Usborne.
Some player changes will have to
be made in order to keep the
teams competitive, All games
are played on Thursday nights
from 8 - 11 with no admission
charge.

Usborne elementary school
Saturday.
A total of 19 tables of euchre
were in play. Prizes were won for
ladies high, Mrs. Heber Shute;
ladies low, Mrs. Glen Stewart;
lone hands, Howard Johns;
travelling lone hands, Lawrence
Kellett; mens high, John Batten;
men's low, Murray Stewart.
One table of crokinole was in
play and there were also games

St. Marys Pee Wees came to
town Friday night emerging the
winner by a score of 3-0 over
Lucan.
St. Marys ended the Bantams
four game winning streak by
defeating the locals 4-2 in a very
exciting game.
Lucan Midgets also played St.
Marys losing by a score of 8-3,
playing one of their poorer games
with the score showing it.
Lucan Juveniles played
Watford twice this week being
shut-out in both games. They lost
6-0 in Watford and 8-0 in Lucan in
a fight-marred game.
Junior D league-leading
Belmont "Sunsets" defeated
Lucan 7-4 Wednesday night. With
the score tied 4-4 after two
periods Lucan faltered in the
third giving Belmont three
unanswered goals enough for the

Jets hockey crew suffered a pair
of defeats during their annual
trip to Erie Pennsylvania.
The Jets with five regulars
unable to make the trip dropped a
5-3 decision in the opening game
of the doubleheader Friday night
and Saturday they were on the
short end of a 5.4 score.
Missing from the lineup in Erie
were high flying forwards Jack
Nairn, Jacques Cousineau and
Rick Fifield and defencemen Jim
Pinnegar and Bill Bourne.
Manager Don Urbshott was back
in a playing role for the first time
this year,
The Jets swing back into
regular Ontario Hockey
Association Continental Senior
league on two occasions this
week. They travel to Preston to
meet the high flying Jesters, The
Preston club has dropped only
two games this season, one to the
Jets and the other to the Durham
Huskies.
Sunday afternoon at the
Ilderton arena at two o'clock the
Jets will be at home to the first
place Stratford Perths.

for ayshutout with only 10 minutes
remaining in the game.

Exeter arena Thursday night.
In the opening contest Les
Pines drubbed Usborne by a
score of 11-3 and in the nightcap
Newby Tire trounced the senior
Hawks 14-1.
In the Les Pines win over
Usborne, Al Rimmer was the
scoring leader with a hat trick
performance. The balance of the
goals for the winners came in
single fashion from the sticks of
Don Campbell, Lewis Mitchell,
Paul Mason, Bill Farquhar, Tim
Ewert, Hans Zeehuisen, George
Bruneau and Scott Burton.
Getting single goals for
Usborne were Al Rundle, Mark
Hearn and Larry Skinner.
The high ' scoring Newby club
was led by the four goal effort of
