In the second period the teams
traded single goals with Jamie
Robb registering for the L-I club
and Brent Webley replying for
the Perths.
It was the same story in the
final frame as Mike Scharloch
grabbed a loose puck early in the
period and scored for Stratford
and Fifield counted for the Jets.
Only 11 penalties were called in
the cleanly played contest in
which the Jets held an upper
hand in the shots on goal
statistics by a 44-32 count.

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets stay in
first place in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior Continental
league was short lived.
The Jets performing on home
ice at the Ilderton arena Friday
night dropped a 4-3 decision to the
Stratford Perths and gave up
first place to the Stratford team.
The Lucan-Ilderton club
bounced back Sunday afternoon
with a 9-6 win over the New
Hamburg Screaming Eagles in
Waxers tie
• in opener
The Exeter Waxers made their
season debut in Goderich,
Saturday, coming through with a
3-3 tie with their hosts.
The team competes in
exhibition games in the novice
category for boys eight and
under.
• In their opening game, the
Waxers pulled off the tie when
John Kernick fired a shot into the
Goderich net on a ganging attack
with only six seconds left in the
contest.
The other two goals came off
the stick of Scott Newby, both on
fine, stickhandling plays through
most of the defending team.
The year's Waxer squad is
coached by Pete McFalls, Bill
Gilfillan, Gary Balsdon, Jim
O'Toole, Bill Batten and Bob
Whiteford. The six also instruct
the novice houseleague lads each
Saturday morning.
Approve grant
for park facility
The Honourable Leo Bernier,
Minister of Natural Resources
and Jack Riddell, Huron MPP,
announce the approval of a
provincial grant in the amount of
$2,062.50 to the Ausable Bayfield
Conservation Authority for a
preliminary engineering study
for realignment and channel
improvement of the Bayfield
river at the Town of Clinton.
The existing channel has sharp
bends and constrictions causing
obstruction by floating debris and
ice, The proposed alignment of
the channel will reduce the
potential flood and erosion
damage to the plant.
The Town of Clinton has been
designated the benefiting
municipality and will be levied
the Authority's share of the cost,
New Hamburg.
After the weekend action the
Stratford Perths and Durham
Huskies are tied for first place
with 12 points apiece while the
Jets are third with 11 points.
This past weekend the London
Kings travelled to Erie and broke
even in a two game set with the
Lions.
In New Hamburg, Sunday
afternoon the Jets faced an uphill
battle in the third period as they
found themselves trailing the
Screaming Eagles 5-3 with only
14 minutes left to play.
, Rick Fifield, the Jets leading
scorer to date pulled his club
back on even terms with two
goals in less than three minutes
of each other after the six minute
mark had been reached,
Fifield's first marker came
with help from Doug Galloway
and Pete Loveless on a power
play while his second successful
shot was along the ice after he
took a long clearing pass from
Jamie Robb.
With the score tied at 5-5 and
the Jets playing shorthanded,
Pete Loveless stole the puck from
the New Hamburg goalie and
fired the puck into the net to give
the Jets the lead 6-5.
Dick Doughty fired an in-
surance goal on a pass from Jack
Nairn at 18.21. The Screaming
Eagles pulled their goalie in the
last minute of play but they were
unable to get any shots past Dan
Lipala in the L-I nets.
The three Jets goals in the first
period were fired by Jack Nairn,
Jacques Cousineau and Pete
Loveless. Nairn's goal came at
the 19 second mark of the opening
period.
The game was played at a fast
pace and was even as far as
territorial play was concerned.
The Jets held a narrow 42-39 shots
on goal margin.
Similar Pattern
The game Friday night in
Ilderton in which the Jets were
shaded 4-3 by the Stratford
Perths followed a similar pattern
to Sunday's contest.
The only difference was the
Jets were unable to come from
behind an early deficit. They
started quickly with Barry
Baynham scoring at the 14
second mark on a low slap shot on
a play originated by Steve
English and Dick Doughty.
Before the first period was over
John St. Cyr and Ron Scholl
counted to put the Perths in front
to stay.
This town was so small its zip
code is a decimal point.

The first Atom game of the
morning ended in a 4-4 tie bet-
ween Conklin Lumber and
Cowan's B.P. Trevor Boyle
scored two goals for Conklin with
singles by Robert Watson and
Kevin Glasgow. Bill Simmons
was a two goal scorer, for
Cowan's with singles by Steve
Riddel and Alex Osgood.
The second game score wasn't
quite as close as the first game
but never the less was quite in-
teresting to watch. Bruce Shaw
was the scoring star for
Lankamps Esso as he scored four
goals with a single by Wayne
Smith for a total of five goals.
Steven Angyal scored both goals
for Taylor Motors.
The Lucan pee wees played
our No. 2 Pee wee team here on
Saturday afternoon. At the end of
the first period Exeter led by a
score of 4-2. Lucan out scored
Exeter in the second period 6-2
The final period was all Lucan as
they scored nine times without a
reply from Exeter for a final
score of 17-6.
This was the first game for our
boys and I am sure they will do
better the next time out. Exeter
goal scorers were Doug Fletcher
with two, Dave Robinson, Mark
Parsons, Steve Horn, and John
Stephens one each. In a bantam
game Lucan defeated our No. 2
Bantams by a score of 10 to 6 This
game was quite close all the way
and with a little more corn-
petition our team will do quite
well. Good scorers for Exeter
were Allen Jensen, E ugene
Clarke Danny Mittleholtz, Chuck
Windsor, Paul Van Gerwen and
Bill Da tars.
The Hawks won one game last
week and lost two, The win was
