T-A photo Board seeks information regarding Amish riders Voyageur under test A third Voyageur Air Cushion Vehicle has been completed at the Bell Aerospace Canada Division of Textron Canada Ltd. plant at Grand Bend. The 45-ton amphibious craft moved off the assembly floor on Thursday, November 8, and is undergoing initial checkout operations at the former Grand Bend Airport site, "This is the best Voyageur of them all," said.James L. Decker, vice president of Bell Aerospace Canada, "It incorporates all of the modifications and im- provements that we've drawn from two years of developing these craft." The large vehicle, capable of carrying a 25-ton load at 50 miles per hour over a range of un- prepared surfaces, will complete factory checks before being turned over to a customer. Several potential buyers are in touch with Bell Aerospace Canada concerning Voyageur 003. The first Voyageur was completed in late 1971, It is presently performing a wide range of tasks in the Northwest Territories for oil companies. Operator of Voyageur 001 is Kaps Transport Ltd., a major cargo hauling company. Voyageur 002 is in the hands of the Canadian Coast Guard which used it in extensive operations this year. The craft is presently at Bell's Grand Bend facility for refurbishment before returning to Coast Guard duties. The first two Voyageurs have proven themselves in hundreds of hours of operation. A new craft — the Viking — is also in production at the com- pany's Grand Bend Airport facility. This 17-ton vehicle will be able to haul a 5-ton payload and, like Voyageur, is completely amphibious. Trials for the Canadian Coast Guard will be conducted with Viking 001 in early 1974. The Viking is destined for Coast Guard service, filling a Coast Guard need for versatile, quick- reacting rescue and buoy-tending craft. If RAP was to assume control, the incentive to raise these funds would diminish. Can you imagine anyone starting up a canvass for funds to sponsor garbage collection? Yet, that is actually what the situation would be, Canvasses for the public purse are not popular, While RAP may now be responsible for the financial obligations of these organizations, that has never been clearly defined to our knowledge, RAP may have assisted in the past, but few considered it an obligation and certainly those responsible for the operation of these semi-autonomous groups never operated on the rather lazy pretext that what they couldn't raise, RAP would pay. While some areas may prove argumentative, there are numerous recommendations that everyone will readily realize should be put into practice at the earliest moment. Copies of the report should be filed away for future reference because they will serve as guidelines for RAP members for years to come. Members of other organizations should also browse through the report to see if there are recommendations about structure that should be strengthened in their group. Now that the report has been made public, extra copies should be made available to organizations coming under RAP's administration so they can present their opinions on recommendations effecting them, Everyone involved with RAP activities in any way should take an active interest in the report and present arguments pro or con before changes are made. The mechanology centre, a group of Zurich area residents and Londoners headed by Prof. J,F. Hart began in 1971 with an Opportunities for Youth grant. Prof. Hart said this grant will enable them to acquire a per- manent home in Zurich to keep collected documents and ar- tifacts of the community. "There is such a cross-section of nationalities and so many old- time farmers in this area that it is an ideal centre to begin this type of research," he said. "We wish to bring the experiences of the old to the young and trace the history of technology effect on rural communities in a documented form." This is the first year for the exploration program, designed to encourage communication and public participation in the arts and humanities, and work on Canada's historical and cultural heritage. Answering trustee Jack Alexander, Wingham, Mr Byler said the teacher at the Amish School was an experienced teacher, a landed immigrant, hired from their church. The people in your com- munity or someone in a govern- ment office somewhere?
