WILLIAM ROHDE The November meeting of the United Church Women was held Thursday in the church basement with Mrs. Ken Duncan as hostess. Mrs. William Snow gave the call to worship and the scripture. Mrs. Jack Stewart gave the meditation on "peace" and also led in prayer. Elimville choir members sang two numbers. Zion choir leader Mrs. Lorne Hern acted as chairlady for the evening with Mrs. Philip Johns, Elimville accompanying on the piano. She also received a generalproficiency award. A successful sale of farm machinery and cattle was held last Wednesday for Mr, & Mrs. Verne Sharpe, prior to them leaving this community to take up residence in Parkhill. Mrs. Margaret Finkbeiner, London spent a few days recently with her son and family, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Finkbeiner. Friends and neighbours paid a surprise visited to Mr. & Mrs. Ed Turnbull last Monday night on the occasion of their 32nd wed- ding anniversary. Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Desjardine and Carleen, Huron Park were Mrs. Mabel Desjardine, Norval Reid and friend, Crediton, Mrs. Trellis Little, Timmy Renard, and Mrs. Carolyn Forget, Watford when they celebrated Mrs. Desjar- dine's 76th birthday and grand- daughter Carleen's 11th. Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Miller visited Sunday in Zurich with their aunt, Mrs. Wilfred Weido. Mr. & Mrs. H. Morenz attended the funeral of their cousin George Ingram last Tuesday at Hensall. Mr. & Mrs. John Becker, newlyweds, have returned from their honeymoon to the West and are settled in their apartment here, Mr, & Mrs, Robert Miller, Niagara Falls, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Albert Miller. Cliff Salmon has returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love spent last week at Sarnia at the home of their son, Clare and family. Emil Becker bought the house of the late Susan Willert at the auction sale, Saturday. A number of members from Zion Lutheran church attended the Lutheran Hour Rally Sunday at the Shakespearean Theatre, Stratford, where Dr, Oswald Hoffman, Lutheran Hour preacher, was the guest speaker. Zion Choir also participated in the mass choir. Sheila Willert and Barbara Pfaff have returned home from a holiday spent at Sonesta Beach, Nassau. Following the program a sale of baking and candy was held Personals Jean Copeland entertained Sunday at a surprise party for Mrs. Vera Mountain, St. Marys who has celebrated her 80th birthday. Present for the happy occasion were Mrs. Mountain, program convener, gave a chapter from the study book, "Education In India". Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne then conducted the business. The roll call was answered with "a famous Canadian". We are to save used nylons to be handed in to Mrs. Snow for the blind in London for making stuffed toys. It was also decided to give gifts to our secret pals at the Christ- mas meeting which is to be held at the manse. Mrs. Robert Mayer gave the Slate of Officers for 1974. Mrs. Ballantyne gave the highlights of the regional meeting which was held at Grand Bend recently. Personals Nancy Alexander, Toronto spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Bev Alexander. The flowers in the church Sunday were placed in memory of the late John Bray. A large crowd from this community attended the recepttion and dance for Mr. & Mrs. Robert Ulch at Kirkton- Woodham Hall Saturday. Bolton keeps world honors Farmers from Huron County continue to hold the upper hand in. world hay championships. At the 51st edition of the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto Tuesday, Russell Bolton, a McKillop township farmer was named world hay king for the second straight year, This marks the 10th time in the past 15 years that the erewn has been won by a farmer from Huron. Russell Dallas of Brucefield. leads the Huron hay champions with victories in 1963, 1969 and 1971. Next in line come Bob. Allan, also of Brucefield, Bob Fotheringham, RR 3, Seaforth and now Bolton with two wins apiece. Allan was the world champ in 1958 and 1962 and •Fotheringham brought home the title in 1965 and 1966 along with the two con- secutive wins by Russell Bolton. The other Huron winner in hay competitions was Wilbur Keyes, RR 3, Seaforth in 1964, Will provide needed grain Ontario cattlemen were assured adequate supplies of western feed grains, particularly oats, Monday by Justice Minister Otto Lang. R.E. McKinley (PC-Huron), whip of the Conservative party said feeders and dealers have been unable to get supplies from the Canadian Wheat Board or any assurance of supplies during the winter. The minister said the rail strike and congestion of rail traffic which followed left supplies short but the board is taking steps to ensure adequate shipments. Outside the House Mr. McKinley said concern over lack of recent shipments, particularly of western oats, has been com- municated to him by Huron County dealers and by the Ontario Livestock Feed Board. It was their opinion that the wheat board had miscalculated the market and was having difficulty catching up.. Area youths in Winter Fair test The Exeter 4-H Calf Club members will be exhibiting their calves at the Royal Winter Fair in the Queen Guineas Class on Friday, November 16, There are 11 members showing calves. They are Cathy and Doug Easton, Barry and Barbara Miller, Beth Passmore, Les Coleman, John and Dwight Kinsman , Bevin Kinsman, Joan Pym and Linda Hem.
