WilliCtril Adams By MRS., FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA A large congregationattended the anniversary service in the United Church Sunday morning With Dr. James Guest, London as guest speaker. Dr. Guest spoke on the subject "Messages from the Past" and based his thoughts on the text. "And what cloth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with Thy God." He stressed the importance of translating these acts to our daily life and pointed out that the more you put into it, the more you get •out of it. The choir under the leadership of Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins• sang two anthems and Mrs. Russell Wilson sang a solo "There is something about that Name". The offertory music was an organ and piano duet by Mrs. Hodgin s and Marikay Hodgins. The church was decorated with Autumn leaves, fruits and vegetables. Flowers were in memory of the late Mrs. McDowell, mother of Clarence McDowell. Other flowers in memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith and Leonard Smith were placed in the church by Mr. and Mrs, Harvey Smith and Penny. Ruth Erskine, Lieury will show pictures of her trip to Africa. RUSSELL SCHROEDER Russell J. Schroeder, RR 2 Centralia passed away suddenly in Exeter October 26, 1973 in his 82nd year. He was the husband of Ethel (Bowden) Schroeder and father of Mrs. Samuel (Dorothy) Semple, Byron; Mrs. Ila Bald- win, San Bernadino, California; Mrs. Lloyd (Norma) Hewitt, Exeter; Mrs. Bennie (Bernice) Webb, Jack and William all of London; Shirley and Wilma, predeceased. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and17 great- grandchildren, Mr. Schroeder was a well known and highly respected area resident. Funeral service was held from R.C. Dinney Funeral Home, Exeter, on Monday by the Rev. D.F. Warren, Crediton, Inter- ment was in Exeter cemetery. Pallbearers were Reg Schroeder, Harry Schroeder Earl Neil, Ross Scriven, Don and Terry Bowden. Relatives and friends attended the funeral from California, Manchester, Mich.; Toronto, London, Sarnia, Bracebridge, Norwich and surrounding communities. Couple back from west N. BOSANQU ET Mr. & Mrs. Fred Fleming have returned home after a five-week trip west. At Vancouver they boarded the S.S. Prince George for a ten-day cruise up the inner passage to Alaska, stopping at Ketchikan, Juneau, the state capital and Skagway. They toured the Southern part of the provinces including Banff, Lake Louise and the Columbia ice fields. En route they visited relatives and friends at Edmonton, Medicine Hat, and Estevan, flying home from Winnipeg. Mrs, Sheila Lansing and Kim, Toronto visited over the weekend with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Melville. Alex Tedball and Wilson Blanchard have returned home from a ten-day flight to the•west. They attended cattle sales in each of the western provinces. Mrs. Percy Elms, Tompkins, Sask., has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. Olive Cook for two weeks. They visited Mrs. Cook's daughter and son-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Kennedy, Kingsville. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Turner, Chatham visited Mr. & Mrs. Harold Prance Sunday. The two men were sitting at a bar. Staffa No. 3 club with Mrs. Daltin Smale and Mrs. Ross Balfour as leaders set up a exhibit on "Five Designs with one Block" with Debbie Win- teringham giving the com- mentary. Staffa No, 1 club with Mrs. Spencer Jeffery and Mrs. Arthur Smale as leaders presented a demonstration on "Lets' get ready to Block Print" with Elizabeth Templeman, Susan Norris and Helen Smale par- ticating. Mrs. Spencer Jeffery received a five-year leadership award for successfully leading 4-H for five years. Helen Smale, Staffa no, 1 received her county honor pin and certificate for successfully completing six 4-H homemaking clubs and Linda Miller, Staffa no. 1, Ruth Jeffery Staffa no. 1 and Donna Waddell, Staffa no. 3 all received their provincial honours for successfully completing 12 4- H homemaking clubs.
