At the present time, they are being picked up in cars by volunteer drivers. But con- sidering the number of trainees and the distance to be covered, this is not a satisfactory, lont term solution. Mr. Rawlings said that the Grand Bend Lions Club has announced that they are willing to assist in the solution of the problem by contributing towards a new 15-seat bus for the workshop. In the meantime, said Mr. Rawlings, there are trainees from as far away as Arkona, Thedford, Grand Bend, Zurich and Seaforth waiting to enter the workshop. ARC is now working with 10 trainees, when all are present - five men. and five women. Because there are no major programs or contracts set out yet, the trainees are just working along with everyone else, trying to put the finishing touch on the WORKSHOP OPENS ITS DOORS - In a symbolic gesture Don Rawlings, director of the Adult Rehabilitation Centre in Dashwood holds open the door of the main entrance to the workshop. This signifies that as of last Thursday the facilities have been opened up to 10 trainees from a wide surrounding district. Mr. Rawlings already has a waiting list with 40 names on it, T-A photo OPEN FOR BUSINESS - ARC Industries, the Adult Rehabilitation Centre in Dashwood has finally opened for business with an initial capacity of 10 trainees being filled. Some are carting away garbage, some doing the floors, some helping to clean the up- stairs for storage purposes. And in spite of what might be called, some "disorganization" in workshop plans, the bright greens and yellows of certain areas undoubtedly reflect the mood of the trainees. They are obviously happy to be there and to get the opportunity to help anyway they can with "their building". Mr. Rawlings is in the process of negotiating for several con- tracts and he hopes to be set up in production as soon as possible, He estimated that it would be another week or two before things really start. "The market position is ex- cellent for us right now," said Mr. Rawlings. "But we don't want to rush into things too fast or it might be our undoing". Although he is anxious to get started on some contract work, he said his main aim right now is NOT to worry about making a profit. "If we can do that, it's fine. But more than anything else, I just want to keep the trainees happy and busy", The time span before more than 10 trainees can be ac- commodated at the workshop depends on the number of con- tracts which can be negotiated, the transportation situation and the amount of equipment they can gather to work with. Mr, Rawlings doesn't give the impression of being too worried about the equipment and fur- niture end of furnishings for the building. "These things usually come through when you need them," he said, "But tell your readers if any groups in the area want projects to work on, we can give it to them". Right now he has a list of 40 names of trainees waiting to use the facilities of the workshop. What the workshop still needs very badly, and will need more of in the future, are volunteer HORSES: will sell at 2:30 p.m. 14 well bred standardbred, • horses.
