Eight sheets of steel were blown off the barn roof and several more were damaged. WMS+ The Women's Missionary Society held their thankoffering church service Sunday with Mrs. W. Murray, Mitchell as the guest speaker. In her address, Mrs. Murray used as her theme, "strength and beauty are in his sanctuary". Mrs. M. Lamond conducted the service and prayers were given by Mrs. Russell Scott and Mrs. Thos. L. Scott. Scripture passages were read by Mrs. Calder McKaig and Mrs. John Wallace. PCIFIAt 9 UCW meet ot Woodham By MISS JEAN POPE t.AND WOODHAM The Thanksgiving meeting of the United Church Women was held in the chureh basement with n members present, Mrs. Nelson Baker opened with quiet music. Mrs. John Rodd led in the, singing of two songs and also read the call to Worship. The Scripture was read by Mrs. Harry Webber and Mrs. Alex Gartenburg. Mrs, ftodd gave another reading and also led in prayer, Mrs, Ted Brine favored with a piano solo followed by a poem by Mrs, Oscar Brine. A hymn was sung after which Mrs. Brine introduced the speaker, Rev. Grant Dawson, who gave a very informative talk on the history of Thanksgiving. Mrs. Jas. Carmel gym and held a surprise presentation and euchre party for Mr. & Mrs. Hubert Desjardine who have sold their farm and are living at Amberley near Douglas Point. Mr. Joseph McCann read an address and Hubert Carey helped him present them with a card table and chairs. Mrs. Jack McCann and Mrs. Joe McCann were in charge of progressive euchre and prizes. Recently a group of ladies presented Mrs. Veronica Mahoney with a spacious book- case on behalf of her farm neighbors to use in her new apartment in Exeter.
