Joanne Johnson formerly of the
Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit
has assumed her duties ad public
health nurse in this area. She
replaces Margaret Smith, who
served Lucan and district for
many years,
Among her duties, she will
conduct prenatal classes to be
held in St. Patrick's School from
October 16 to December 4th, each
Tuesday evening. Registration
will commence promptly at 7:30
on the opening night, For further
information call 433-7226 and ask
for Mrs. Murphy.
Child health conferences which
teach general health and im-
munization will be held on the
third Thursday of each month,
commencing November 15 and
are open to all mothers with
infants and preschoolers.

Area farmer
dies suddenly
Lorne Barker, a farmer for
many years on the 4th of Bid-
dulph who retired to Lucan in
June of this year, died suddenly
October 4th.
He is survived by his wife,
Charlotte A. (Noyes) Barker and
a son James of Biddulph
Township. Two sisters, a brother
and three grandchildren also
survive.
The funeral service at the C.
Haskett and Son Funeral Home
was held October 6, with Rev, R.
Savary officiating, Interment
was in the Dorchester United
Cemetery,
Pallbearers were: Don
Brockett, Lorne Hodgins, Don
Barker, Martin Arenthals, Bob
Demaray and Dean Gibson.

to Anglican churches
Outside games were enjoyed at
the second expedition of the
Lucan Explorer Group Monday.
A "wonder centre" had been
set up consisting of pictures of
God's good gifts in nature and in
this connection Counsellor Mrs.
Don O'Neil taught a new hymn.
Members were asked to wear a
navy skirt and any short sleeved.
Fair shows
large profit
When the Lions Club met
Monday the members decided to
abandon the drop-in centre at the
old fire hall site as the majority of
the senior citizens contacted felt
that this site should he turned into
a money making project for the
village, rather than an expense.
A donation of $100 was voted to
the Lucan Irish D hockey club,
and after a lengthy discussion on
the park budget, $2,500 was
allotted. The park committee will
install "monkey bars", etc., for a
better play area for the district
youngsters. A donation of $250
was also made to the
instead of making the usual
village canvass.
The fair report showed a profit
of $15,947.50 after the expenses of
$23,500 were paid, Special thanks
to Lion Clare Stanley and the fair
committee for a job well done.
While the first dance of the
season usually loses money, the
September committee reported a
profit of $100,
Honor bride-elect
at trousseau tea
Mrs. Bernard Benn entertained
family and friends at a trousseau
tea Sunday in honor of her
daughter Carol, prior to her
marriage to Bruce Maslin
October 13,
Mrs. Mac Cooper and Mrs.
Carson Mills, aunts of the bride,
poured tea in the afternoon and
Mrs. M. Bannon and Mrs. H.
Mogk, aunts of the groom of-
ficiated in the evening.
The wedding gifts were shown
by Mrs. Bob Maslen; the shower
gifts by Mrs. Rob Lukings; and
the trousseau by Mary Benn,
sister of the bride. Linda Maslen,
sister of the groom, was in charge
of the guest book.

star, new members are to
memorize the purpose, prayer
and motto and the gold star girls
are to keep a record of each
expedition and rewrite it in story
form. This exploration is called
"What is the Explorer Group?"
and "Who are Explorers?"
Mrs. W. Froats led a discussion
on Explorers of long ago and
related this, along with an ex-
planation of the emblem,
A Thanksgiving service of
worship in the sanctuary was
held with Lori Lightfoot Heather
Fenwick and Mrs, O'Neil taking
part.
The members were asked to
keep a list of things they discover
and bring it to the next ex-
pedition.
Bonnie Brooks, daughter of Mr.
& Mrs. Gordon Brooks, RR 1
Lucan, is home after a three-
month vacation in England and
Europe. Bonnie had a job for a
short time in England but spent
most of the time travelling. She
spent three weeks on the Isle of
Corfu which she reports to be
absolutely beautiful.
Mr. & Mrs. Orville Jones spent
three days last week visiting
friends in northern Michigan, at
Honor, They report a lovely trip
as the fall foliage is at its best.
Jennifer Hodgins, Vanastra
Park, granddaughter of Mr. &
Mrs, M,H. Hodgins and Mr. &
Mrs, Arthur Cunningham, spent
the weekend with her grand-
parents, while Megan, her baby
sister, visited with Mr, & Mrs,
Wayne Hodgins, an uncle and
aunt, on the 9th concession of
London Township.
Mrs. Alma Price visited with
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Murdy Sunday,
for a family Thanksgiving din-
ner.
A former patient at St. Joseph's
will play the organ and direct the
choir for the balance of October.
Flowers in the sanctuary were
placed by the family of the late
Lorne Barker.
Pentecostal
Evert Gagnon, Hamilton, a
former minister here, was the.
guest speaker at both service at
the Pentecostal Church Sunday.
In the morning he pointed out
that "the whole purpose for us to
be cleansed and have God's holy
spirit is so that we may reach out
to others to love the Lord".
Mr. Gagnon played his cornet
in one musical selection and Tim
Stutt led in the singing.
At the evening service Mm
Gagnon spoke on "Thee second
coming of Christ". He sang a solo
which tied directly into his ser-
mon, Robert Holland led in the
singing; Joan Lockyer sang a
solo accompanying herself on her
guitar; and Doug Butler sang a
solo.
Lambeth visited with Miss L.E.
Abbott Wednesday and gave her
the sad news of the death of a
friend, Eva Hunter, age 89.
Mr, & Mrs, Evert Gagnon and
family, Hamilton, were weekend
guests with Mr, & Mrs. Howard
Currie, Duchess Street,
Carolyn Madden and friend
David Zaluski and Mr. & Mrs.
Ted Madden, Etobicoke were

Lucan. Joe is the new member of
the Lucan detachment of the
OPP,
Because of the change of date
of the Holy Trinity Anglican
Church supper it is necessary to
hold the Fashion Show two weeks
later to November 7.
Sunshiners
play euchre
A total of 16 members of the
Sunshine Club played
progressive euchre for high score
winners at their recent meeting,
Topping the mens and ladies
respectively were Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Hotson.
In the absence of President
Mrs. Harry Bond, Mrs. T. Emery
Sr., chaired the business
meeting.
The club also held a sale and
tea Saturday in their club rooms
in Lucan. Co-conveners were
Mrs. T. Emery and Mrs. J.F.
Tuke. The "General Store" was
stationed on the porch and proved
to be quite successful. It was
convened by Mrs. T. Toohey and
Wm. Frost.
Conveners of the baking table
were Mrs. Lawrence McCarthy
and Mrs. Clarence Rogers. Mrs.
Frank Jolliffee looked after
children's table and handicrafts
were sold by Mrs. Harold Egan
and Mrs. Joe Carter. Mrs. Cecil
Robb was in charge of the
clothing table assisted by Mrs. J.
Catteral.
A draw was conducted on a pair
of pillow cases and a sheet which
was won by Mrs. Cecil Neil.
A total of $60 was realized by
the senior citizens to help carry
on with their meetings.
The Right Reverend Carman J.
Queen, Bishop of the Anglican
Diocese of Huron, announced that
he has appointed an Incumbent
for the two-point parish of Holy
REV, JOHN WILLIAM HOFLAND
Only four accidents were in-
vestigated this week by officers
of the Lucan detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police.
Corporal B,F. Crane described
the Thanksgiving weekend as
"the quietest holiday weekend
since I joined the force here."
The first mishap of the week
occurred early Thursday mor-
ning on Middlesex County road 5,
one mile west of highway 7.
A vehicle driven by Donald
Millson, 17 Hawkesbury Avenue,
London caught fire and was
completely destroyed. Constable
James Craig estimated the loss
at $700.
Early Friday afternoon,
damages of $2,500 were incurred
when a trailer being towed by a
pickup truck jackknifed and went
into the ditch.
The accident occurred on high-
way 23, a quarter mile north of
the Granton road. Constable N.A.
Campbell investigated.
Sunday afternoon, a head-on
Auxiliary again
skating sponsors
Mrs. A.E. Reilly chaired the
regular monthly meeting of the
Auxiliary to the Legion Tuesday
evening. It was decided to
sponsor figure skating again this
year. The pro will be Mrs. Bar-
bara Richardson, London, who
has done such a terrific job in the
past few years.
Lessons will commence
November 20. Volunteers are
needed to help with this project

Reverend John William
Holland, since 1967 rector of
Shelburne, will succeed the
Reverend Robert A, Carson
November 1. Mr, Carson moved
to Blenheim at the first of this
month.
Born in Rotterdam, The
Netherlands, Mr. Holland came
to Canada in 1951. Two years
later he commenced his training
for the ministry at Emmanuel
College, Saskatoon. He served for
a total of five years in the
parishes of Hay River and Fort
McPherson in the Diocese of The
Arctic.
In 1962 he transferred to the
Diocese of Huron, and assisted
briefly at St. Anne's Church,
Byron, before his appointment as
assistant curate at Grace
Church, Brantford. In 1964 he
became Incumbent of Dundalk,
which was later merged with the
Parish of Shelburne.
Mr. Holland is not married.

County road 16 and was of a very
minor nature.

street, London and Kinglsey Wes
Wilson, 284 Rabb street, London.

Explorers hear about
own group. history
United
Thanksgiving and world-wide
communion were celebrated at
the United Church Sunday when
Ewart Madden spoke on "What
Robe Shall I Wear" (to the Lord's
Table) pointing out that the white
robe signifies inner cleansing and
the robes of humility and praise.
All three are requirements for
receiving the blessings available
at the Lord's table,
The church was decorated in
the Thanksgiving theme and the
edibles and flowers were taken to
Craigholme Nursing home
following the service.
Thanks and best wishes were
extended to Robert Blackwell for
his helpful leadership in music
'lot the past two.year's. The'
prayers of the congregation go
with him as he continues his
musical education. The choir,
under Robert's direction, sang
Thanksgiving and communion
anthems.
