Co-operate
Exeter residents are asked to ca-operate in
the matter of burning leaves this fall.
Those living on paved streets should make
certain the fires do not spread onto the asphalt
surface.
All residents are asked to refrain from bur-
ning leaves over catch basins.
While the burning of leaves is permitted, all
residents should use caution in this regard and
make certain their fires do not become hazards
to traffic. Children should be kept away from
fires and piles of leaves on boulevards at all
times.
Where possible, burn your leaves in your
back yard.

Express regrets
as course ended
The class of '73 will be the last
Class of Registered Nurses
Assistants to graduate from
South Huron Hospital.
Graduation for the 12 girls was
held last night (Wednesday) and
the general feeling was one of
regret that there will be no more
student nurses at the hospital.
All schools of nursing similar to
the one in Exeter have now been
taken oVer by certified colleges in
the province, according to a
government plan for re-
organization. The South Huron
Hospital Training Centre for
RNA's will be taken over by
Conestoga College, with its main
centre at Doon Valley, Kitchener,
Including this year's class, a
total of 123 girls have graduated
from the RNA course since it
began at South Huron 11 years
ago.
Mrs. Jack Deibridge, who has
been the head instructor for the
girls since the course started is
very proud of the fact that there
has never been one failure in the
whole 11 years.
Naturally, she will be sorry to
see the course end at South Huron
Hospital.
"The school has provided a
great service to both the hospital
and community," she said. "For
one thing,the trainingcentre gives
the hospital incentive to keep its

NEW LEGION MEMBERS — The membership rolls of the R. E, Pooley
Exeter branch 167 of the Royal Canadian Legion were boosted con-
siderably Thursday night with the addition of 26 new men. The seven in
the front row are regular members while theothers are associates. Back,
left, Charles Browning Jr., Peter Mason, Paul Mason, Doug Ellison, Pon
Case and Scott Burton. Third row, Larry Brintnell, Gerald Prance, Ken Fred H. MacDonald photo
Seniors are
entertained
A father was buying a fountain
pen for his son's birthday gift. "I
suppose it's to be a surprise, sir,"
said the clerk.
"I'll say it is," replied the
father.
"He's expecting a new car!"
standards high".
The RNA course is a very
popular one, Mrs. Delbridge said
that each year the hospital
received between 200 and 300
applications from all over the
world fox about a dozen positions
in each year's class,
The training centre was
designed mainly, however to
serve girls with suitable
qualifications from the district,
This year, for example, there are
students from Exeter, Seaforth,
St. Marys and Stratford,
The next closest training
centres are in London and
Strathroy. All these courses have
been under the College of Nurses
of Ontario,
South Huron Hospital had the
option of carrying on with the
course, under the auspices of the
Conestoga College, but only for
one more year. The hospital's
Board of Director's, who are the
governing body of the course,
declined the idea, however.
It is not known where the new
course will be held or when it will
begin, but all applications for the
next course have been tranferred
to Conestoga College.
Two residences were provided
for the students, one in the
hospital and another on Huron St.
Mrs. Joy Jackson and Mrs. Jim
Meikle were the house mothers
for these residences.
Also involved in the training
centre program are Mrs. B.
Horton, Hensall who is the
clinical instructor, Mrs. Jean
Wilson, Exeter director of the
training centre and hospital
administrator Alice Claypole.
The senior citizens October
meeting was held at the Exeter
Legion Hall Tuesday with a good
attendance.
After the usual card games a
program was presented with Bob
Heywood as chairman. The
Glanville sisters gave a duet,
dancing by Laurie Westman and
interpretive dancing by Barbara
Westmn, with Mrs. Audrey
Bearss at the piano and Mrs.
Anderson on the violin were
enjoyed.
Tap dancing by Mona Hodgins,
selections by the Heywood
brothers and Glen Hodgins and a
small skit by Nancy Rader
completed the fine evening of
entertainment.
Girls receive

The South Huron Gideon
