for luncheon is served

At their September meeting,
the Marian Ritchie Evening
Auxiliary named the committees
for the "luncheon is served"
party to be held early in
November. Mrs. Beverly Taylor
Was appointed ticket convener.
The meeting was held in the
Sunday School room with Mrs.
Lorne Elliott presiding. An
Indian hymn was sung followed
by scripture passages read by
Mrs. Carter Kerslake. Mrs.
Elliott led in a prayer for
missionaries and Mrs. John
Templeman read a chapter on
revolution in the education of the
youth in India, The roll call was
answered by giving a current
event from the Glad Tidings or
Record.
Mrs. Larry Gardiner presided
for the business when it was
decided to invite the home
helpers to the next meeting at
which there will be a talent sale.
Invitations were accepted to the
Women's Missionary thankof-
fering meeting and to the fall
conference of Perth Presbyterial
to be held in Listowel.

Taylor read an article from the
Record, "Need Help? Call Fish,"
which told of a volunteer
organization in Prince Edward
Island which helps people in
distress.
Mrs. Gardiner read a poem and
the meeting closed with the
hymn, and prayer in unison.
Personals
Due to the illness of the
minister, Rev. W. Jarvis, church
service Sunday was taken by the
Rev. Glen Wright, Exeter United
Church. We wish Rev. Jarvis a
speedy recovery following
surgery in University Hospital,
London.
Marilyn and Margaret Laing
visited Sunday with. Mr. & Mrs.
Thos. Gillespie, London.
Ten members and five guests
of the Alpha Pi chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi sorority met at the
home of Mary Ellison for their
meeting Tuesday evening.
The five guests, Norma Peat,
Sue Smith, Anita Cowey, Carol
McDonnell and Eila Martin are
all potential members of the
group and were welcomed.
The program for the evening
was "About style" which was
conducted by Evelyn Josephson
and Sharon O'Toolb. They gave a
demonstration on clothing,
showing different styles. The
ladies also participated in a game
of classification where each
member of the sorority had to be
classified as athletic, gamin, etc,
by their clothes and build.
It was reported that the
sorority, which entered the
Exeter fair for the first time as a
group this year, did very well.
They got six first prizes, nine
seconds, and 13 third prizes. JJ

held Sunday at Zion West United
Church with Rev. Bruce Guy,
Dashwood as guest minister with
his sermon topic, "You are the
salt of the earth. The choir
rendered two anthems under the
leadership of Mrs. Lorne Bern.

Mrs. Dorothy Hutchison,
Mitchell,Mrs. Appleton, and Mrs.
Harry Coates, Exeter visited one
day last week with Mr. & Mrs.
Charles Jeffrey,
Hall when Robin Daynard and his
wife Joan spoke and showed
slides on his work in Africa.
They, and their young son are
returning to Africa in the middle
of October after spending two
months vacation with their
families and friends.

Activities was the theme of the
Staffa Women's Institute Meeting
held in the community hall
Wednesday with 15 Members and
three visitors present.
Mrs. John Miller presided and
opened the meeting.
Mrs. Jo Van Valkengoed
presentedaninteresting paper on
the motto, "No one grows old by
living, just by losing interest in
living."
Guest speaker for the evening
was John Stratton, Stratford. who
gave a most interesting and in-
formative talk on Estate Plan-
ning and Wills. His talk was
followed by a question and an-
swer period.
Margaret Laing ,entertained
everyone with two accordion
selections.
Roll call was, "Why I have, or
have not made a will."
Mrs. Kerslake gave a report of
the district executive meeting
and also of the pot-luck dinner at
Kirkton Community Center held

The Kirkton A.C.W. met
Thursday in the church basement
with 18 present. Those taking
parts in the Litany were Mrs.
Garth Blackler, Mrs. Wm.
Waghorn, Mrs. Rev. Savary and
Mrs. Alex Irvine.
A business discussion followed.
It was decided to hold the annual
bazaar November 10. The
chairman for the evening then
introduced the guest speaker
