Panthers provided most of the
excitement in the 2-0 win over
Listowel in an otherwise dull
contest.
Neither offence was able to
move the ball very well. The
Panthers gained 131 yards on the
ground and 17 through the air for
a total offence of 148 yards before
penalties. Listowel was able to
pick up only total yardage of 77
yards.
Blocked Lis towel kicks by Brad
paters and Stephan Orenchu,k of
the Panthers late in the first
quarter set up the first South
1-luron score.
Paul Truemner carried the ball
over the goal line from five yards
out on two attempts, Paul
Robinson was successful with the
convert attempt and the Pan-
thers were In front 7-0.
Listowel kicked two single
points in the third quarter to
account for their only game
scoring,
The second Panther touchdown
came unexpectedly midway
through the final period.
Listowel in a kicking situation
sent the ball from near their own
goal-line to the 40 yard line where
Brian Tuckey made the catch for
the Panthers, Tuckey headed for
the left sidelines and was able to
make his way over the goal line
without being touched.
Soccer activities
set for weekend
Pee wee soccer teams from the
Huron Soccer Association will be
meeting in Goderich Saturday to
compete for the Pamela Budny
Memorial trophy.
The Exeter pee wees after
being winless in regular season
play in the Huron soccer league
showed vast improvement in two
recent exhibition games.
Saturday, they travelled to St.
Marys and scored an impressive
3-0 win over the youngsters from
the Stone Town, Wednesday the
same two teams met in Exeter
and battled to a scoreless draw.
In Saturday's contest in the
first few minutes the teams
tended to bunch and were evenly
matched. Later in the first half,
Exeter returned to positional
play led by forwards Vincent
Winters and Wayne Parsons.
A high lob by Sandy Markus
found the St. Marys goal late in
the opening half and the Exeter
club was in front 1-0.
In the second half, Preston
Dearing booted two goals for the
winners, one coming on a pass
;itom Ted Decharme who com-
pleted a spectacular .run.
During the second half, the
Exeter back line combination of
Paul Van Gerwen, Wesley
Abbott, Steve Baynham and
Sandy Markus aided goalie
Randy Parsons in gaining his
second consecutive shut-out.
Exeter's first game in the
Goderich tournament will be at
10.30 a.m. against Seaforth. The
team will be leaving South Huron
District High School at 9 a.m.
