IT'S FAIR TIME AGAIN
a
It's fall fair time in Exeter again. Friday and
Saturday of this week the Exeter Agricultural Socie-
ty proudly presents the 119th edition of the Exeter
Fall Fair.
Directors are continually striving to provide
new and varied features and events and this year is
no exception. All of the popular events of the past
will be included in the program along with some
changes.
The fair parade which was a huge success last
year will be started an hour later. All parade par-
ticipants including the children with their decorated
bikes and trikes will gather at the Snell Bros. park-
ing lot. Starting time is 11:30 a.m.
A feature of the Saturday afternoon program
will be live entertainment at various locations on a
continuous basis throughout the afternoon.
The entertainment will include Robert Walker
and his trained dogs, Exeter's champion fiddler
Gerry Smith, Bob and Danny Heywood and the
Star Trex band from Bayfield.
The fair gets underway Friday night with Ex-
eter mayor Jack Delbridge in charge of the official
opening along with fair president Bob Down.
The official opening will be followed by the
ever popular baby show. Secretary Garnet Hicks
reports this week that entries are being received in
all divisions. Anyone wishing to make entry should
call Mr. Hicks at 235-2438 until 6 p.m. tonight,
Thursday.
The second contest Friday night will decide
who will be the Exeter Fall Fair Queen for 1973.
This event is being held for the seventh consecutive
year and continues to be a tremendous success.
Gerry and Alice McLean are in charge of the
beauty contest and expect to have eight pretty girls
from the area vyeing for the honour. Doing the
crowning of the new queen will be last year's
winner Anne Morrissey.
The winner will receive a Bulova watch from
Earl Campbell jewellers while the runner-up will
receive a beauty kit from Jean and Maurice Love,
Bestline distributors. The Exeter branch of the Royal
Bank will open a five dollar account for all other
contestants.
Visitors to the fair Friday night will be enter-
tained by excellent amatuer'entertainers from the
district.
Performing for the fair crowd during the inter-
missions of the baby show and queen contest will be
Bob and Danny Heywood with their country and
western music, the tap dancing Karen and Betty Ann
Miller of Staffa, Valerie and Carolyn Glanville of
Hensall and ventriloquist Bob Goodwin.
The indoor exhibits in the arena will be on dis-
play at the fair Friday night as well as all day
Saturday. Also on view will be the usual lineup of
booths and displays by local merchants. The pop-
ular candy booth operated by the Exeter Home and
School Association is expected to supply goodies to
the fair goers.
A second queen will be crowned Friday. She
will be the top point getter in the fair baking com-
petition.

Another feature Friday night will be a skit
presented by the South Huron 4-11 Calf Club. It was
the Southwestern Ontario winner at Western Fair,
Displays in the arena and on the grounds will
be more numerous than in past years. Secretary
Garnet Hicks indicates the requests for exhibitor
space is higher than ever.
For the second year, the London Forest City
model flying club will present an exhibition of radio
controlled model airplane flying, Saturday after-
noon.
The Exeter Agricultural Society feeder calf
club and five 4-H clubs will again be participating
in the fair.
The calves of some 20-odd members of the
feeder calf club will be sold by public auction dur-
ing the afternoon activities.
At the same time, a large number of Exeter
and area automobile dealers are expected to have
their newest models on display.
The parade Saturday morning at 11:30 will be
headed by the Exeter Legion band and the Zurich
Centennial band.
Joining Mayor Delbridge in a brief Saturday
afternoon ceremony will be Huron MP Bob
McKinley, Huron MPP Jack Riddell, Stephen reeve
Joseph Dietrich and Lloyd Ferguson, reeve of
Usborne township.
The fair concludes Saturday night with a
dance at the Exeter Legion Hall. The music will be
supplied by a popular area group of musicians, the
Star Trex from Bayfield.
During the Saturday night dance a draw will
be made for four valuable meat prizes.

this weekend. It is my pleasure
on behalf of the officers and
directors of the Exeter
Agricultural Society to invite you
to attend either as an exhibitor or
as a spectator on Friday night,
September 21 or Saturday,
September 22.
We, the directors of Exeter
Fair most certainly appreciate
the support of the many people
who have contributed to all
aspects of the fair by donations
and advertising.
The grants we have received
from the Ministry of Agriculture
and Food, the County of Huron,
the town of Exeter, and
surrounding municipalities are
all gratefully acknowledged.
I would thank all the countless
people it takes to put on a show
this size especially the directors
of each division the ladies
division and all their helpers.
On Friday night at 7 p.m. en-
tertainment starts things rolling
in the arena. Come and see the
numerous exhibits in the main
arena, -- flowers, field crops as
well as local merchants displays.
The women's exhibits in the
auditorium alone are well worth
the trip to the fair, Friday night.
In addition, we have the official
opening of the fair at 7:30 p.m.
with Mayor Jack Delbridge, MP
Bob McKinley, MPP Jack Rid-
dell, Stephen reeve Joseph
Dietrich, Usborne reeve Lloyd
Ferguson and Roy Pattison
Huron warden taking part. Next
comes the ever popular baby
show enlivened by entertainment
by the Heywood Bros.
Also entertaining will be the
Miller girls of Staffa and the
Glanville sisters of Hensall, The
crowning of the Exeter Fair
Queen ends the evening.
Saturday starts off when the
parade forms up at Snell Bros at
11:30 a.m. This year the
children's parade will also start
at Snells.
Arriving at the fair grounds
things are set to go. The western
horse show runs continuously
throughout the afternoon, both
the light and heavy horse show
take place in the afternoon.
Be sure and see our new
feature — Bob Walker and his
sheep dogs in two shows.
We will again have a lineup of
livestock in the different
divisions - sheep, swine, dairy
and beef. The Exeter Fair feeder
calf club, with 19 members will
put on their usual top show with
the auctioning of the calves
coming off about 3 p,M.
Out pigeon and poultry division
will have a feathery display
worth your perusal. As well
rabbits are always interesting to
look at.
The school fair department is
something you shouldn't miss.
The pets under the grandstand
and the ever increasing displays
along the east side of the arena
show the enthusiasm that our
children put into the fair.
Watch for the high flying radio
controlled model airplanes.
Hopefully they'll have no smash
ups again this year. Smooth
flying fellows.
There will be continuous live
entertainment all afternoon from
1 to 5 p.m. featuring the Heywood
Bros. "The Star-Trex" and Jerry
Smith and Cliff McDonald, The
