was up for grabs at Saturday's
annual Huron County plowing
match.
The 46th edition of the event
was staged on the farm of
Howard Datars, a mile north of
Dashwood in Hay township,
Stephen township councillor
Ken Campbell won the
businessmen's class which was
open to non-farmers and mayors,
reeves, deputy-reeves and ex-
reeves.
Campbell was actually sub-
stituting for Stephen deputy-
reeve Cecil Desjardine. A team of
horses pulling an old-fashioned
walking plow was used for this
category,
Named as Queen of the Furrow
was 19-year-old Colleen Cardiff of
Brussels. She is a second year
student at St. Marys School of
Nursing.
Other contestants were her
sister Janet and Helen Brindley,
RR 6, Goderich. The new queen
who will represent Huron at the
upcoming International plowing
match at Alvinston was crowned
by 1972 queen Marilyn Robertson
of Wingham.
Contestants were judged on an
interview, a prepared speech, an
impromptu speech, appearance
and plowing skill, The judges
were Mrs. Roy Bennett of
Wingham and Roger Dowker of

The UCW of St. Andrew's
Church, Kippen met at the home
of Mrs. J. Sinclair in Seaforth
September 12. Mrs. Hank Bin-
nendyk was hostess and was in
charge of the worship, the theme
of which was, "Working with
God," Hymns were sung, Mrs.
Binnendyk gave a poem and
closed with prayer.
Mrs. W.J. F. Bell chaired the
business portion and gave a
Thanksgiving poem. Reports of
the Sunshine Committee were
given by Mrs, N. Dickert; the
rose committee by Mrs. laird
Finlayson; the visiting com-
mittee by Mrs. R. Elgie. A total of
16 members answered the roll
call, "Where I spent my summer
vacation."
An invitation to Zurich United
Church Oct, 4 was accepted. It
was decided to have a collection
instead of a fowl supper and to
buy a second hand amplifier to
replace the one that disappeared.
The topic, given by Mrs. David
Cooper, was a Quiz on India, the
discussion of ten other religions
besides Christianity in India,
followed by a crossword puzzle.
Mrs. Harold Jones conducted a
contest, Mrs. Ross Broadfoot
gave courtesy remarks and the
meeting closed with a hymn.

Lambton hosts
International test
The International Plowing
Match and Farm Machinery
Show is held each year in a dif-
ferent county. It has been an
annual affair since the Ontario
Plowmen's Association ran the
first match in 1913, with the
exception of the war years.
The 1973 Match will be held in
Lambton County, near Alvinston,
on the J,D. McGugan and neigh-
botiring farms. There will be over
600 acres of land used for
plowing, parking, tractor park,
tented city, airport runway and
field demonstrations,
The 1973 Match is to be Of-
ficially opened by His
Excellency, Governor-General
Michener on Tuesday, September
25.
