get two league wins
Exeter soccer teams scored
two wins in three starts at Huron
Park Saturday in Huron Minor
soccer league action.
The Exeter mosquitoes scored
a 3-2 victory while the squirts lost
to Huron Park by the same 3-2
score, In Atom play, the Exeter
Knights downed Huron Park 6-2.
Torn DeBoeck scored two goals
to lead the Exeter mosquito win
over Huron Park while Preston
Dearing booted a single goal,
Brad Kernick scored both
Exeter goals in the 3-2 loss to the
Huron Park Squirts,
The Exeter Knights scoring
attack was led by Brad Kernick
who turned in a hat trick per-
formance after scoring twice in
the earlier contest.
Other Exeter goals were scored
in single fashion by Richard
Helm, Graham Solomon and Dale
Jones.
In Ausable intermediate league
play Sunday afternoon the Exeter
Centennials edged Taxandria
"A" 1-0,
Late in the first half, Dave
Parsons was sent into the open on
a solo effort and he was able to
get away a successful shot.
The Exeter club's next action
will be on their home grounds
Sunday at 2 p.m. when they take
t an Taxandria "B".
Lady bowler
wins twice
It was time for the ladies to
dominate the weekly jitney ac-
tion at the Exeter lawn bowling
club again.
This time it was Kay Snelgrove
who was the champion Thursday
night and again Tuesday. Taking
the top spot Saturday night was
Charlie Hendy.
Thursday night, Kay Snelgrove
compiled a plus of 17 and
aggregate of 35 to go with two
wins. Alvin Pym finished in
second spot with two victories, a
plus of 9 and aggregate of 26,
Close behind in third spot came
Edith Love with the same wins
and plus but an aggregate of 24,
Wilf Shapton was in fourth
position.
Charlie Hendy's winning card
Saturthy night contained a pair
of wins, a plus of 15 and 28
aggregate. Finishing second with
identical scores of two wins, a
plus of 8 and aggregate of 17 were
Gertrude Hamilton and Alvin
Pym.
The battle for fourth place also
developed in a draw between
Beth Batten and Bill Etherington.
Saturday night Kay Snelgrove
scored the double victory with a
plus of 11 and 27 aggregate to
head the prize list. Close behind
with a plus of 10 and aggregate of
19 came Charlie Hendy. Wilf
Shapton was third.
The penalty for bigamy is two
mothers-in-law.
A three-way dead heat featured
Sunday's races of the Huron
County trotting pony club held at
the track west of Exeter on high-
way 83.
In the second race of the af-
• ternoon, Star Fire driven by
Ernie Clark, Sparks with Frankie
Young in the sulky and Ross's
Lady Supreme driven by Ernie
Ross all hit the wire in the time of
2.10.
The fourth race proved to be a
neighbourhood battle with
Fairview Adious Linda driven by
Jack Parsons nipping Peter
Jackson driven by neighbour
Ivan Webber by one-tenth of a
second.
The next races, will be held at
the club track on Sunday, Sep-
tember 30 at 2 p.m.

1st race: 2:15-2:20, Tony

at Hully Gully
The second event of the Ontario
Snowmobile Drag Cham-
pionships proved to be another
day of keen competition for all
competitors and an afternoon
filled with excitement and thrills
for Hully Gully. racing fans. The
best time of the day was turned in
by Keith Vessair on Alouette 440
from Honey Harbour, the time 8.6
seconds for V8 mile strip.
Top pointsman for the day was
Peter Nieuwenhuizen on a
Scorpion from Watford with 145
points, John McGuire on Alouette
from Bramalea was second with
118.5.
Top lady was Audrey Collins on
Rol-o-flex and Chaparral from
Varna with 90 points, Nancy
Walker from Mt.Brydges on Roll-
o-flex second with 66. Next event
in championship series will run
Sunday October 7 at Hully Gully.
Brian Kipfer of Dashwood won
the C Super Stock event and Greg
Armstrong of Zurich was second
in the D modified final and third
in the E modified.
The weary shoe salesman had
pulled out half the stock and still
could not satisfy the fussy woman
customer. Finally, he mopped his
brow, sat on the floor, and said:
"Mind if I rest a minute, madam.
Your feet are killing me!"

Jets planning
first practice
The schedule for the 1973-74
season for the new Ontario
Hockey Association Continental
Senior league has been released.
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets last
year's OHA Senior "B" champs
open their season in the 10-team
league on October 26 when they
meet the Bothwell Barons at the
Ilderton arena.
The other nine teams in the
league are from Bothwell,
Durham, Preston, Stratford,
Ingersoll, Woodstock, New
Hamburg, London and Sterling
Heights, Michigan.
The first practice for the Jets
will be held at the Huron Park
arena, Monday night at 7 p.m.
Playing coach Jack Nairn asks
any prospective players in this
area including over-age juniors
to attend the initial workout.
If you plan to tow a trailer,

First session
for Hawks
The first practice session for
the 1973.74 edition of the Exeter
Hawks junior hockey club has
been scheduled for Sunday af-
ternoon at the Huron Park arena
at 4 p.m.
Coach Bob White issues an
invitation to all prospective
players to try out for the team.
A league meeting is being held
tonight, Thursday in Lambeth to
organize for the coming season.
Other practices are set for
Wednesday, September 26 at 8:30
p.m. and Saturday, September 29
at 4 p.m.
Safety course
for boaters
Instruction in safe boating
methods will again be available
to residents of this area through
the courtesy, of the Goderich
Power Squadron,
The Goderich Power Squadron
is one of 120 units of Canadian
Power Squadrons, a nationwide
organization which instructs
classes in safe boating during the
fall and winter months. This
squadron serves all of Huron
County and portions of Lambton
(Grand Bend area), and Bruce
(Kincardine area).
This year, registration will
take place in Central Huron
Secondary School, Clinton, on
Wednesday, September 26, from
7 to 8,30 p.m. Classes will com-
mence on Wednesday, October 3,
in the same place from 7.30 to 8.30
p.m. and will continue every
Wednesday evening. Latecomers
may register at 7 p.m., Wed-
nesday, October 3, if informed
ahead of time.

boaters may secure further in-
