WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD About 70 relatives, friends and neighbors gathered at Usborne Central School Tuesday to sur- prise Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Passmore on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. About 15 tables of euchre was in play. Prizes were won as follows: ladies high, Mrs. Gilbert Johns; ladies low, Mrs. George Kellett; men's high, Lorne Passmore; men's low, Frayne Parsons; lone hands, Mrs. Bill Rohde, and Jim Cooper. Calvin Christie was chairman for the short program. Mrs. Philip Johns who was the pianist at the wedding 25 years ago played a few musical numbers. A game of "Mr. & Mrs." was then enjoyed with Beth Passmore as the spokeslady and Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Passmore and Mr. & Mrs. Arnold Cann taking part. Harry Jeffery, who was best man, read a well-worded ad- dress. Many gifts were then opened by the guests of honor. All the bridal attendants sat at the head table: Mrs. Jack Stewart, Mrs. La Verne Rodd, Mrs. Frayne Parsons, Mrs. Jack Constable and Harry Jef- fery. Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Finkbeiner, Roy Finkbeiner, Mr. & Mrs. Reg Finkbeiner and Michael, and Robin Lambie have returned from a trip to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They covered about 3900 miles in their motor home. In a restaurant at Ignace, Northern Ontario, they met by chance Lt. Col, and Mrs. Robert Palmer and their family on their way to their new home in Edmonton. By MRS. STAN PRESZCATOR Mr. & Mrs. John Brooks, Elmira spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Payne. Mrs. Jack Dye spent the weekend with her grandchildren, St. Thomas. Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator visited Sunday evening with Jack Cutting and Eileen Peter, Huron Park. Margaret Haist returned after a months holiday s in Europe were she visited Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Tammy Preszcator and Ed Chalmers Sebringville visited Saturday evening with the for- mer's parents Mr. & Mrs. Stan Preszcator. Linda and Steven Gertsenkorn, Exeter visited a few days last week with Mr, & Mrs. David Passmore. Mrs. William Rohde, Mrs. Glenn Rohde and Danny visited. Friday afternoon with Mrs. John Kingma and Michael, Grand Bend. Mary Gay Brooks and Cynzia Campolucci, Toronto visited Saturday with Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jeffery. Mrs. Mort Caswell and family, London visited Monday with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore. Mr, & Mrs. La Verne Rodd, Woodham and Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Passmore are holidaying this week at Kapuskasing. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Gartenburg, Woodham entertained their aunts and uncles at the home of her parents Mr. & Mrs. Hiram Hanna, Kirk ton Saturday. The occasion was the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde and also the 26th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Alex Gartenburg. Those attending were Mrs. William Thomson, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Clayton Hanna, London, Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Shier, Kirkton, Mary Gay Brooks, Cynzia Campolucci Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. Rohde and Traffic, heavy in Ontario, with many trucks and camper-trailers on the. road north of Lake Superior, thinned noticeably on the prairies. The travellers found the western grain shorter than that in Ontario fields and missed our stands of corn and beans, but enjoyed the sloughs on which wild ducks were swimming. Grasshoppers fouled the wind- shield in one region, In Manitoba they visited John Finkbeiner and toured a museum which commemorates the beginning of a Mennonite settlement in 1874. There is a windmill which was built as a centennial project. The Steinbach windmill, the only one of its kind in Canada, is a replica of one built in 1877, A Dutch builder came from Holland ,to assist in its erection, In Saskatoon they were guests of Sgt. and Mrs, Robert Lambie who moved there from Kapuskasing in June. They found Saskatoon a busy, interesting city; visited the Ukranian Arts and Crafts Museum and an Evangelical United Brethren church. On their return journey they missed by one day the devastating hailstorm at Yorkton. Trees were beginning to show fall colours in the North Bay area. The weather during their journey was cool and pleasant, Mr. & Mrs. Gartenburg, Mrs. William Elford returned home Saturday from St. Joseph's Hospital, London aftter having been a patient there for two weeks. The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mr, & Mrs. Glen Stewart in the passing of their aunt, Victoria Coward. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK Mrs. Laura Bennett, Detroit and Mrs. Ben Hamilton, Auburn visited with Mr. and Mrs. Sam King. Mrs. Earl Whalen, Shaun, Derick and Tracy, Petawawa and Marlene and Kerry Lynne Mahoney, Cambridge visited over the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Sam King. Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner is a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital; Mrs. Steve Dundas is a patient at University Hospital. Mrs. Dave Cottel, Mrs. Aaron Wein and Mrs. Harry Gielen joined the Hurondale Women's Institute on their bus tour to Hamilton last week. Wednesday a shower was held in Zion United Church in honor of Glenda Pfaff, September 'bride- elect. Diane Hodge directed the program; Elva Finkbeiner played a piano solo and Shelley Weber read the address. Shelley, Diane, Ruth Finkbeiner and Elaine Pfaff assisted Glenda in opening the gifts and Shelley and Elva conducted a contest. Hugo Schenk has been ad- mitted to the Queensway Nursing Home, Hensall. Sunday at Zion United Church special music was provided by Mrs. Peter Martin, accompanied by Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner at the organ. Flowers in the chancel were from the funeral of Mrs. Mildred Holtzmann. An electric clock for the balcony rail, gift of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lamport, was dedicated in memory of Brian Lamport. 4-H Club leaders attended a two-day training course at Exeter United Church August 23, 24. Those who took the class were Mrs. Cliff Kenney, Theresa Ondrejicka, Mrs. Ed Nethercott, Mrs, John Miller, Patty Tasko, Kathleen Gielen, Shelley Weber and Mrs. Don Finkbeiner. The organizational meeting of the 4-H Club, "World of Food in Canada," will be held September 10 at 7 p.m. in the community centre. All girls 12 years of age by September 1 are welcome. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fink- beiner enjoyed a motor tour, visiting Midland, Bracebridge and the CNE and Ontario Place .
