BY SID DALEY
Had an enjoyable weekend in
Barrie attending a Seminar at the
Legion Branch there, it was
certainly well attended from the
area legionnaires. There were
workshops on every phase of
Legion and it was the general
consensus the program is
necessary, well timed and in-
formative. Most of the top brass
were there to instruct and answer
questions.
Of course my baby is the
National Magazine 'Legion' and
let me tell you I was most sur-
prised at the questions asked. All
chairmen were pleased with the
result - the reaction of those
attending to the various
workshops was most rewarding.
This was the first of the area
seminars to be held throughout
the province, the next one will be
in North Bay to look after
Districts H. & K., then will come
Kingston and a little later Lon-
don.
I urge the comrades to make
note of the date of the seminar
that will be held to service your
branch and then make sure you
have representation in at-
tendance, These sessions cannot
do anything but better the legion,
by having informed and
dedicated Legionnaires at, the
helm of each and every Legion
Branch Committee.
Make it a point to attend -
really great. Unfortunately it is
an impossibility to be in two
places at one time.
Sorry I missed the annual corn
roast Saturday night, From all
reports received the 80 odd
members in attendance had an
enjoyable time an abundance of
good corn and an old time sing
song. We tip our berets to Fred
Davidson who so aptly looked
after the piano playing duties for
Mr. & Mrs. Michael Dewan and
family have moved to Stratford.
Mr. Dewan will assume the
duties of principal at St, Joseph's
school, in September,
Mary Benn has commenced
her duties as secretary at St.
Patrick's School.
Margaret McMahen of Mon-
treal called on Mrs. T.C. Mac-
Farlane at McCormick Home
Saturday.
The many friends of Mrs. E.O.
Lancaster will be glad to hear
us in the absence of the promised
pianist.
Congratulations are in order to
Comrade Gord Elson and Roger
Christie who won a berth in the
Royal Canadian Legion Ontario
horseshoe tournament to be held
in Levack - good shoes, Comrades
and we hope you come home with
the silverware.
While on the subject of horse-
shoes don't -forget on the
weekend of September 22 and 23
Branch 540 plays host to the
Provincial horseshoe tour-
nament. On this date horseshoe
players for all over the province
will converge on our town to vie
for the Provincial Cham-
pionships, prize money and
awards. We are going to need lots
of help Comrades.
Do your part by volunteering
your help and assure we have
enough bodies to make the
tournament run smoothly, ef-
ficiently and above all to make
certain our visitors will always
remember the hand of welcome
and generous hospitality they
received while in the Irish Town -
LUCAN,

Have your say where it really
counts.
Our Ladies of the Auxiliary will
start their fall sessions on
Tuesday September 4 and the
above remarks apply to them as
well. Come out to your meetings
and support your elected of-
ficials.
C-Day will be here soon
Comrades and of course I am
refering to the Carleton Show
Band who are being hosted by
Branch 540 on October 5 and this
being a Friday everyone should
be able to enjoy themselves.
From all releases viewed these
lads are in great demand and we
of the Legion are pleased to have
this opportunity to present them
for your enjoyment. Remember
the date now thats Friday,

however, tickets will be limited,

Season ends
at swim pool
What a summer! Tomorrow
(Friday) the pool will be closed
for yet another year. As the
machines are switched off, an
unusual quiet prevails in the
filterroom, and many pleasant
memories drift slowly through
the minds of the staff.
In the Red Cross Program,
more than 75 percent of the
students succeeded in obtaining
their respective badges. The
swimming team, "The Lucan
Flying Fish" put up a very
determined showing during all

completely outclassed, but this
did not discourage the members
of the team from swimming their
very best.
"The Lucan Swimming 7,"
water polo team came up with
their first victory this season, and
they also gained a tie in a double
header at the Clinton Pool
recently.

minutes with Clinton, and Lucan
