PRANK PLUMB GRAND BEND Mr. and Mrs. Wally Burbank came to Canada from Leicestershire, England, four months ago with their two sons and their wives. David and Maureen Burbank, the younger couple are working at the Snack Shoppe. The eldest son is a salesman for Rankin Motors of London. Both sons had to pass two driving tests - practical and written, to allow them to drive in Canada. Aided by business manager Dennis Calder from London, Ontario, Irene and Wally Bur- bank plan to stock patent drugs, newspapers, cosmetics, and sundries, selling all but prescription drugs at present. At the Snack Shoppe the first week there was some confusion between Canadian customer and English shop-keeper over "potato chips". The English would put on the hot fat for "chips" when the Canadian was asking for packaged "chips", so some fried chips got wasted until it was understood what the English call "crisps" means the packaged "potato chips" here, The Burbank family think Grand Bend is a clean friendly lakeside resort and are looking forward to meeting everyone. Though she had to stand in the rain with Londoners in Canada, Mrs. Irene Burbank was thrilled to see the Queen for the first time this June. Added interest was shown by visitors, to the fish pond, white elephant table, and home crafts exhibit. Mrs. Ed, Gill offered her ceramics for sale too. Resident Passes Away Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Mrs. Elgin Webb who passed away on Saturday. She was pre-deceased by her husband in 1972. Mrs. Webb was born in Greenway and taught 25 years in district schools. Persona Is Jack Mennell is home from South Huron Hospital in Exeter, The Grand Bend Lion's Club have donated a megaphone and life-saving raft at a cost of ap- proximately $200 to the life- saving program at Grand Bend.
