Camp Care kids always busy
The program is for children
from the ages of four to 13 and it
runs every week day from nine to
three. This is the second year that
the Opportunities For Youth
grants has financed it.
Steve Wuerth one of the leaders
said that this year they have had
to make do with half the staff and
half the budget. Rut they have
more children.
How many children get
Christmas hi .July? Or the chance
to compete in their own Olym-
pics? Or to be an Indian for
week, complete with costume,
campfire and tribe?
The children pt Camp Care at
the Huron Park J.A.D. -McCurdy
Pulbic School have done all these
things this summer and sorae
more besides.
There are 190 registered and on
the average they have about 80
kids a day. Last year there were
only 120 registered and the
averaged attendance was 50 to BO.
The staff this year consists of
six of the original people who
pioneered the project last year.
They are students front the area.
Besides Steve are Don Jolly,

Mary Ann Gielen and Deb Walsh.
F.',IaineHaptie was also hired this
year.
Randy Gilfillan, Terry Janke
and Lynne I3aptie help out on a
volunteer basis,
"Lynne particularly has been
here every day." said Steve.
"She's a great help."
Local industries have also
helped the finances by donating
all sorts of odds and ends for
crafts. And mothers help by
providing chauffeur service to
take the kids on their many ex-
cursions.
There have been overnight
camping trips, a tour of
Storybook Gardens in London,
and the track and field Olympics
in Zurich.
"We whipped them again this
year." said Steve, The Camp
Care teams competed against the
Zurich playground children.
More recently, they staged a
walka than from Huron Park to
Exeter and back to raise money
for a trip to the amusement park
on Boblo Island.
Some of their other projects
include making stools and ben-
ches, wall hangings, macrame,
candles, leather crafts, pillows
and stuffed animals.
The program seems to be
popular with the children, Just
about all the ones from last year
have come back, And the parents
have given a positive reponse too,
said Steve.
"Most of the kids are good kids
although there are a few problem
ones. But we talk to them and try
to help them. We wish we could
get more of them here." he said.
Steve said that they are con-
sidering applying for the grant
again next year in order to carry
on the program.
duet and Joan also sang a solo
which she dedicated to the
Thorntons.
A bedspread type quilt, bearing
the insignia of the Women's
Auxiliary which had been made
by the members of the Auxiliary
and displayed at the Roanoke
Conference, was presented to
Mrs. Thornton and a "purse" was
presented on behalf of the
congregation.

ordained ministers and one lay
delegate from each local church,
providing that the church has
met denominational standards.
In addition to these delegates,
each conference will choose other
lay delegates as necessary to
equalize lay and ministerial
representation.
A major decision ,made by the
delegation was to relocate the
church headquarters from
Franklin Springs, Georgia, to
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
There are approximately 35 local
Pentecostal Holiness
congregations in Oklahoma City,
as well as denominational in-
stitution,Southwestern College,

There were 26 charges under
the Liquor Control Act.
Three accidents were in-
vestigated in the resort and 31

two were charged with impaired
driving.
Other investigations included
one break and enter, one theft of

I don't think being well-rounded
is particularly important. I would
rather see people with a cutting
edge on them.
