The National Board of the NFU
passed several resolutions
calling for changes in the grains
industry in Canada at its recent
meeting in Winnipeg.
The key resolution dealt with
Union policy that all Canadian
grains be placed under the
jurisdiction of the Canadian
Wheat Board,
The board urged the govern-
ment to immediately take that
step.
Another resolution called for
moving the Canadian Wheat
Board back under the jurisdiction
of the Department of Agriculture.
The board also requested that
the CWB and the federal
government place barley and
.oats under a one-desk selling
system similar to that used for
wheat and to close the future
markets for these grains.
Finally the board urged the
federal government to raise
initial prices on wheat and durum
to $2.25 per bushel, barley to $1.00.
