The animals were not injured in the accident which occurred on highway 4 just east of the Clandeboye east curve. Constable G.N. Wilcox listed damage to the vehicle at $500, Thursday, a pig owned by Allan Sheldon, RR 3, St. Marys was killed when it was struck on high- way 7, east of the Thames River bridge in Blanshard township. The vehicle was driven by Gary Leslie Claxton, 105 Grand Avenue, London and Constable W.T. Hodgins set damages to the car at $650. Sunday evening, a vehicle driven by James M. Middleton, 6111/2 Dundas street, London was damaged to the extent of $300 when it swerved to miss a small animal and went to the ditch. The accident occurred on Clarke Road, north of Concession 8-9 in London township and was 7investiga ted bsniConstable Wilcox. Monday night, raccoons crossing the road caused a vehicle driven by William Gow, 633 Dundas street, London to go out of control on Middlesex County road 16, just west of Con. 1-2 in West Nissouri township. Friday, the 13th proved unlucky for four motorists in the Lucan area, Four accidents occurred in less than six hours time Friday afternoon and evening. At 1.55 in the afternoon, an unoccupied vehicle owned by Brian John McHenry, RR 3, Lucan was struck by a vehicle driven by Donald Wallace, 73 Simcoe street, Exeter in a private driveway at Lot 11, Concession 7 of Biddulph town- ship. Constable W. Disher listed damages at $250. Early Friday evening a 15-ton cement truck driven by Roy F. McRoberts, RR 1, Granton went out of control on highway 4, south of Concession 11-12 in London township when the steering locked. Damages to the truck were set at $1,000 by Constable W.T. Hodgins, At 7.15 a mobile home unit was destroyed by fire on highway 4, south of the Mount Carmel road intersection. More details on the mishap appear with the report from the Exeter PPP detach- ment, Only 15 minutes later, a vehicle driven by Leslie Hartle, Ailsa Craig was damaged to the extent of $2,800 when it struck a hydro pole on Middlesex County road 13 in Biddulph township. Constable G.N. Wilcox in- vestigated. Saturday a motorcycle driven by Roy Book 280 Carrie street, Strathroy went out of control on County road 13, just west of the Lucan village limits. Rev. Ewart Madden, com- menting on the words of the duet, said we should thank God for the beautiful things which are happening in the lives of many of our young people today. Mr. Madden's text was "Did you not realize that I would be here at the temple in my Father's house", Jesus was God and man. As a man this was one of the more vital of his experiences. Mr. Madden said we should not compare our goodness with the goodness of those around us, but with the goodness of Jesus. The question was asked "Do you ever stay after the service"? (as Jesus did) God is the most important person in our lives, are we willing to spend more time with Him? Next Sunday, Mr. Madden's topic will be "The Attractiveness of Jesus" and another "hymn sing" will be enjoyed, Come and spend an hour with us in God's house. Pentecostal Holiness Rev. Elvin D. Thornton con- tinued his series of sermons Sunday morning on the "Ark of the Covenant" and noted that the Ark was a chest made of Acadia hospital in Strathroy. Constable L.L.S. Denney in- vestigated and damages were set at $1,000. The same day, a vehicle driven by Patricia Robinson, 306 Marlborough street, Exeter went out of control on highway 4, north of the Moorseville intersection and struck the ditch and fence posts. Damages were set at $500 by Constable Disher. The other accident of the week occurred Wednesday on Mid- dlesex county road 16, east of Concession 6 in West Nissouri township. Involved in the single car crash was a vehicle driven by Joseph W. Elliott, RR 3, Thorndale. Damages were set at $3,000 by Constable W.T. A film "The Chinese are Coming" will be presented at the church, Saturday, July 21st at 7 p.m. under the auspices of the Youth Group. A representative of "Underground Evangelism" will comment on the film, All are cordially invited to attend. St. Patrick's Coldstream Conservation Area was the scene of the Parish Council and P.T.A. Picnic, for the St. Patrick's Church. Because of the heat the swimming area proved to be the most popular spot. Sunshine dub enjoys bus trip Thirty-five members of the Sunshine Club and 3 Senior Citizen guests enjoyed a bus trip on Thursday, touring Fanshawe Pioneer Village and Springbank Park, An excellent dinner at the Imperial Restaurant, Richmond St, N, highlighted the afternoon trip, Mr. Wm. Frost lead the group in singing "For they are Jolly Good Fellows" as a "thank you" to the bus driver and the con- veners. Club members hope to make the bus trip an annual event, Family Mrs. Patrick Clarke and sons, Anthony and Philip and daughter Mary have returned from a 3 week visit with relatives in England and Ireland, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Stutt, son Tim and daughter Christine attended the 30th annual Poole family reunion at St, Paul on Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Charles O'Shea have returned from a motor trip to Alberta. Mrs. Harold Whyte of Owen Sound, formerly of Lucan has been a guest with Mrs. Erie Young this past week, visiting her many friends in the village, as well, Mrs, Charles Sovereign of Pike Bay, a former Lucanite visited friends in the village this week. Mrs, M,H. Hodgins visited with Many ball now in full Lucan has a team entered in the Ailsa Craig and District Women's Softball League. The standing is as follows: Ailsa Craig - first, Lucan - second, and Denfield - third. Other teams in the league are Nairn, St. Peters and Arkona, Home games are played each Friday evening at 8:30 at the arena. The Lucan team is entered in the Provincial Women's Softball Union of Ontario. Home & Home series is played with each team, the winner advancing to a province-wide series. The first game in this series is against Ilderton and will be played July 21st, at Weldon Park, Arva, starting time 8:30 p.m., with the second game at the Lucan diamond on July 22 at 8:30. If Lucan wins they will go on to play either Streetsville or Strathroy. Recreational Fast Ball League....,, This League is composed of 9 teams of local players. Team standing as of July 12 is as follows: Firemen, 8 - 2; Midgets, 8 - 3; Walloy-Hearn, 7 - 5; I.G.A., 6 - 4; Lions, 6- 5; J.J. Plumbing, 6 - 5 Biddulph Boys, 4 - 8 ; Legion, 3 - 8; Shillelagh, 2 - 9; Games are played on Monday & Thursday evenings. The Lucan Irish 9 team is playing in the Ailsa Craig Fast Ball League, 10 teams par- ticipating, and has a record of 9 wins and 6 losses. Home games are played each Wednesday, starting time 9 a,m. You are invited to support your home team which draws players from a radius of 5 miles, unless they played last year. The annual Fast Ball Tour- nament played in Lucan on the Dominion Day weekend proved to be a great success, and the Irish 9 team has entered two more tournaments, one in Brussels over the Civic Holiday and the other in Goderich on the Labor Day Weekend. Brothers Ward and Paul Elliott are coaching, Jim Burt is the manager and Doug Johnston the secretary- treasurer. Mrs. Fairies cannot see very well now, but has a roommate who will read your letters to her. Mrs. Harold Dickins of St. Thomas spent a few days this week with her sister, Mrs. N. Coleman. Mrs. Iris Haney and Mrs. Otto Meyer of London, Mrs, Catherine Fischer of Lucan and Miss Catherine Fischer of Komoka spent Wednesday visiting relatives and friends in Dash- wood. Mrs. Anne Kish has returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital leagues • swing Stars and the Dodgers are boys 8- 10 and the Expos and Cardinals are the 6-8 age group. Instruction is given in the basics of baseball as the game is played practically the same, except there is no pitcher and the ball is hit off a "tee". Fielding and scoring are the same, The coaches are trying to keep away from the com- petitiveness of organized sport. The boys play each Sat. at 10 a.m. News from Lucan's pool In the la*st teaching session 213 children were registered, spread over all levels of Red Cross and so far 173 are signed up for the current session. A swim team has been registered with the Canadian Amateur Swimming Association which will compete in dual Meets with Dorchester. Alf Williams would like to thank the ladies of the com- munity who have volunteered to help with registration and other pool activities, their help is much appreciated. The pool staff soft ball team, after an outstanding first victory, issues an open challenge to any soft ball team in the community. Pro wrestling fills local arena The Lucan Arena was filled to capacity for the first wrestling matches of the season on Tuesday evening. Whipper Billy Watson, Jr., the Canadian Junior Heavyweight Champion and Chief White Eagle wrestled the Love Brothers, but it ended in a disqualified match. Four tag teams of the World Famous Midgets created much hilarity and this match was won by the tiniest team. The "lady" wrestlers Jean Baxter vs. Sandra Burchnall match was won by the "lady-in- black", Jean Baxter. The Mighty Humphrey, all 520 lbs. of him, won over the Mongol in the final match. Grandchildren visiting with Mrs, Catherine Fischer recently include Miss Jamie Fischer, for a few days, Miss Charlene Mor- dush, for a week, both of London and Miss Catherine Fischer of Komoka for two weeks, Mrs. Harold Butler, Jr. is home from the hospital and doing well. Miss Ellen Smout, London, granddaughter of Mrs. T.W. Atkinson, Main St. spent the weekend with her grandmother, Miss Susan Thornton and her fiance, Mr. David Olsen, from Toronto spent Sunday with her parents celebrating her birthday. Mark and Bruce Rogers from Brampton are spending the week with their uncle and aunt, Rev. and Mrs. Thornton. Anniversary celebrated Miss Elizabeth and Messrs. Paul and David Revington en- tertained many friends and relatives at their home Main Street S., on Saturday afternoon and evening, in honour of their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Donald Revington, who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
