CROMARTY
A Cromarty man escaped
serious injury last Friday when
the Oliver 88 tractor he was
driving broke through the barn
floor. Ivan Norris was pulling a
load of bales into the barn when
the floor gave way letting the
tractor down into a pen con-
taining three calves.
The tractor came to rest with
one of the back wheels on the
floor and the other on a cement
partition which it had broken
down.
Because the tractor formed
about a 70 degree angle to the
floor, Mr. Norris was able to roll
Park Plaza in Toronto with ac-
cordion and violin; circus per-
formers, Gloria and the Busy
B's; four lovely dancing girls
from Toronto, the Gladys
Forrester Dancers;, and
Kirkton's own Paul Brothers and
Shirley.
Lee Paul will also M.C. the
show. Musical directors are Jack
and Chris.
The president of the KCA this
year is William Waghorn, Mrs.
Clayton Ross is the convener of
the juvenile contest committee.
Since 1945 the KCA has carried
out the purpose of the founder,
the late Dr. C.A. Campbell to
provide cultural and recreational
advantages for the residents of
the Kirkton area. Donations have
been made to many organizations
and worthwhile causes in all
aspects of the community's life,
Between 4,000 and 5,000 people
enjoyed the three-fold program
last year.

In unfamiliar waters sudden
drop-offs and debris like rocks or
broken bottles beneath the
surface can hurt you, So swim
only in supervised areas and at
times when professional
supervision is provided. Stay
alive with Red Cross water safety
all summer long.
Caught in a tie-up in hot
weather? Put your car into
neutral or park while you wait
it out; the engine won't get so
hot.
A British company has
developed a radar-operated
bumper to prevent rear-end
collision. The radar signal
detects obstructions and
automatically slows the car or
brakes it.,
At least twelve states are con-
sidering legislation requiring
motorists to wear seat belts.
None of the laws has been
adopted so far.
SOS on the highway: raise
your hood and run up a white
handkerchief or cloth from the
antenna. At night, keep your
headlights and flashers on.

Drive in soon!
Safety first, and a bargain to matt h.
off the seat onto the straw in the
pen,
Mr. Norris' brother-in-law,
Ronald Kraemer, seeing the
wagon backing down the bank
toward his truck, shouted to
Maurice Ruston to run downstairs
and he himself grabbed the
broken tongue and steered the
wagon to a safe place without the
loss of one bale.
It was thought for a few
minutes that one calf must have
been pinned under the tractor,
but it was found in another part of
the stable, having jumped out of
its pen,
The following morning, Russell
Parsons of Staffa was able to
raise the tractor back up through
the hole with two of his derricks,
and it went back to work minus
only one fender.
The July meeting of the W.M.S.
of Cromarty Presbyterian
Church was held at the home of
Mrs. John Jefferson, with Mrs.
M. Lamond presiding. The theme
of the meeting was "Operations
of His Hands,"
A hymn was sung and the
scripture lesson was read. Mrs.
Lamond Led in prayer and
dedicated the offering.
The roll call was answered by
naming an animal found in the
Bible. In place of a topic, Mrs.
Lamond explained the im-
portance of hands, and each
member read a portion on it.
A cassette recording on the life'
of India's farming community,
prepared by Mary Whale,

played by Mrs. Thos. L. Scott. A
record was also enjoyed.
