Prizes totalling $500 will be up for grabs in next Mon-
day's Exeter Centennial fastball tournament being held at
Exeter Community park.
This is only one of many sports attractions taking place
at the same time, Monday. In addition, a minor soccer
tourney and swimming meets and exhibitions will be going
on,
The Exeter fastball committee consisting of Jerry
Finnen, Cy Blornmaert and Ed Hearn have rounded up eight
of the best fastball teams in Western Ontario and area ball
fans along with Centennial visitors are in for some exciting
action,
The first game gets underway at 9.30 in the morning
with London Berkshire meeting Ingersoll. At 11 a,m.

London meets Breslau at 12.30. The last of the four opening
round games puts Lambeth against Sarnia at 2 p.m.
The championship game will start at 8.30 with the win-
ning club taking home the first prize of $250. The second last
game of the day is at 7 p.m. and is the consolation final with
the winning club receiving $75.
All games in the tournament will be of seven innings
duration with an hour and 15 minute time limit, No inning
will begin after that time unless the score is tied.
If at the end of five innings, one team is ahead by 10 runs
or more the game will be terminated except for the cham-
pionship contest.
The soccer tournament will feature nine teams from
Huron County and the age limit is 10 years of age or under.
Meeting in the competition will be two teams each from
Exeter, Seaforth and Goderich and single entries from
Huron Park, Grand Bend and Clinton,
The first game gets going at 9 a.m, with the cham-
pionship final slated for 5 p.m. A girls exhibition game will
be played prior to the final game of the day.
The winning team will receive the Exeter Centennial
cup donated by Centennial Plumbing of London and Lucan.
Due to the fact nine teams are entered, a preliminary
game at 9 a.m. will bring the Exeter "A" club against
Goderich "B". •
Games will continue each hour until the second semi-
final game is completed at 4 p.m. At this time the girls
game will be staged to give, the two final challengers a little
more rest.
Grand Bend meets Huron Park at 10 a.m., Goderich
"A" meets Exeter "B" at 11, the two Seaforth clubs do bat-
tle at 12 noon and Clinton takes on the winner of the first
game at one o'clock.
At the time of writing the complete list of entries for
Wednesday's harness racing card was not available but the
Exeter turf club expects to have an excellent brand of
horses competing in the eight races.
To Hall of Fame
During the past couple of months we have mentioned
that Clandeboye's most famouse citizen is about to receive a
special award.
On Sunday, July 1, Clint Hodgins will be inducted into the
Harness Hall of Fame at Goshen, New York.
Clint will receive the traditional Hall of Fame ring and
a new statuette of himself will be unveiled in the Hall of
Fame museum.
In a recent news release, the United States Trotting
Association describes Hodgins as a "money driver without
peer."
During his long driving career, the 66 year-old native of
Clandeboye has broken two minutes on no less than 35 oc-
casions. He has also had three "horses of the year" winners.
They were Proximity in 1950; Bye Bye Bird in 1959 and
Adios Butler in 1960-61.
More about Horses
While talking we would like to mention that area horses
and drivers are doing more than holding their own at tracks
throughout the province.
One of the area's veteran racing enthusiasts received
one of the biggest thrills of his long career Sunday night at
Garden City.
Jack Morrissey who has been an owner and racing of-
ficial for many years watched as his Queenie's Laddie went
a mile in only one and four-fifths of a second over the two
minute mark.
Morrissey who purchased Queenie's Laddie in Western
Canada last fall in partnership with Goderich native driver
Ron Feagan told us this week this was the tenth victory of
the season for the pacer and his card now held winnings of
more than $19,000.
In Sunday's race, Queenie's Laddie went to the quarter
in a fraction over 29 seconds and to the half in a minute and
two-fifths of a second and was in sixth place going into the
top turn and turned on a terrific burst of speed to come
home the winner.
In the Lucan area, Andy and Ken Hardy and Neil
McRann continue to win their share of races at London and
Windsor.
The only, Exeter and district racing enthusiast who is
engaged in the business full time is having an excellent
year. Jim Wallace who trains nine horses at the old quarter
horse and rodeo grounds on the fourth concession of Stephen
township has an excellent record at Western Raceway in
London.
