Dr. & Mrs. Balsdon's home
dates back to the 1850's, It is a
stately Victorian building located
on a large lot at the corner of
Albert and James streets.
Banker B.S, O'Neil was one of
its first residents. Early in the
1900's it was the home of Dr. &
Mrs. Allen Quackenbush; then
Mr. & Mrs. Wm, Wallace Fisher;
and prior to the Balsdons, Mr. &
Mrs. Claude Farrow.
Originally the house was
surrounded by beautiful
verandahs, long since gone when
the Balsdon's moved there in
1969. Inside, the 12 foot high
ceilings are beautifully adorned
with carved plaster.
Six rooms upstairs and five
rooms downstairs have been
redecorated by the Balsdons with
a minimum of structural change
and according to Mrs. Balsdon
"There is still a lot of work to be
done,"
Up the curved cherry stair-
case, visitors will find a study,
three bedrooms, bathroom and a
laundry-sewing room. Down-
stairs off the spacious entrance
hall is a living room, large dining
room, kitchen, family room and a
back porch,
Tickets for the tour are $2 each
and are available from Verla
Russell, Carol Reid, Pat Fletcher
and Dorothy Balsdon or from the
centennial office, Hopper-
