KEN McKELLAR CROMARTY David and Janet Kinsman, Don Sararas, Bob Harburn, Frank Allen, and Pamela. Wallace were among the grade eight students of Upper Thames Elementary School who spent a few days studying the geography and industries of the Sudbury area. WMS Mrs. Malcolm Lamond was hostess for the Women's Missionary Society of Cromarty Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Charles Douglas, presiding, opened the meeting with a poem. Following a hymn, the scripture was read alternately. The roll call, "Friendship", was answered by eight members. Program III of the study book on India. "The Land and its Peoples", was taken by Mrs. Calder McKaig. Mrs. Mervin Dow chose for her topic, "the wealth of friendship." Personals Mrs. Mervin Dow, Mrs. Calder McKaig, Mrs. J. Jefferson, Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. Larry Gar- diner, Mrs. T. Scott, Mrs. C. Kerslake, Mrs. J. Templeman attended the W.M.S, meeting on Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall Monday. Weekend guests with Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Dow were Mr, & Mrs. Walter Caughil, Dunnville. Beth Christie, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Murray Christie, graduated recently from Guelph University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Studies and is employed by Consumers' Gas Company as .their Home Service Supervisor for the Niagara area. Marilyn Laing has been em- ployed by the Stratford Public Utility Commission. Bonnie Kerslake is employed in the accounting department of The Village Inn, on the edge of Sarnia. Mr. & Mrs. Otto Walker visited Friday with Mr. & Mrs. Frank Erwin, Putnam. Joanne Dow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Dow, graduated Friday from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Attending the graduation exercises besides her parents were her grandmother, Mrs. Stanley Dow, her sister, Nola, and her aunt, Mrs. Jeanette Coltman, Toronto. One ambitious Holstein cow in this neighborhood found herself stranded on top of a gate when she attempted to jump out of the pen in which she had been im- prisoned. Unable to touch the floor with either front or back feet, she was found some time later by the owner who placed a support under her front foot enabling her to topple herself back over, into the pen! Most of the corn in this area has been planted and the bean fields are being sprayed and planted. By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE Sunday morning at the regular church hour, the young people were in charge of the service. Selections from "Godspell" opened the service. Nancy Alexander conducted the service and Barry Miller gave the prayer of Invocation, Mary Kernick read the scripture lesson, The sermon "It isn't easy being a Good Samaritan - anytime" was given by Sylvia Stewart, Diane Hodgert, Robbie Stewart, Laurel Hodgert, Barbara Miller, Robert Bray Lawrence Kellett, Ronnie Stewart, Murray Stewart Elaine Stewart„ Janice Stewart, Sandra Stewart and Brian Mayer. The offering was given by each individual coming to the table at the front of the church. UCW The June meeting of the United Church Women was held Thur- sday with Mrs. Donald Kernick as hostess. Mrs. Barry Jeffery, program convener was in charge By MRS. RENA CALDWELL KIPPEN The U.C.W. of St. Andrew's church, Kippen met Tuesday at Mrs. Emerson Kyle's home with 21 present. The devotional was given by Mrs. John Anderson and her theme was "Faith, Hope and Love." A hymn was sung followed by scripture reading. Mrs. Anderson closed with prayer, The study was taken by Mrs. Wm. Consitt who gave the per- tinent facts of India's govern- ment, geography, religion and industry. The material used to portray her topic was posters compiled by the Explorers. Mrs. Consitt completed her topic with a crossword puzzle using the facts brought out in her study. Other business related to the bale sent to the London Rescue Mission and bazaars held by the Explorers and Queensway Nursing Home. Plans were finalized for the supper as well as of the meeting of which the theme was "the perfect church." A hymn was sung and the call to worship was given by Mrs. Jeffery, Mrs. Murray Dawson and Mrs. Ken Duncan, Scrip- ture lesson was read by Mrs. Duncan and prayer by Mrs. Qawson. "The meaning of Pentecost" was given by Mrs. Jeffery, Mrs. Barry Robinson gave a very interesting and inspiring talk on "The Holy Spirit", and Mrs. Jeffery read a poem. Mrs. Duncan read about "Adventures In. India" and Mrs. Dawson read about "An Indian Girl". Mrs, Jeffery also read an article on India, Mrs. Ballantyne conducted the business and Mrs. Mac Hodgert gave a manse report stating there would be a beef barbecue in the near future. Personals Mr, & Mrs. Mac Hodgert, Jack and Joanne were guests at the Luxton-Dozios wedding in Chatham Saturday. Doris Elford, Mrs. Chas for the Sunday School Picnic June 24 in Exeter Park, Mrs. Bert Faber demonstrated the making of buttermilk scones, Hostesses were Mrs. E. Kyle and Mrs. Ross Broadfoot, Mrs. Wm. Bell President chaired the meeting. Personals Farmers have been taking advantage of the sunshine to sow beans. Mr. & Mrs. Ottis Swindall, Detoriot, Michigan, visited with Mr, & Mrs. Elzar Mousseau. The sympathy of the com- munity goes out to Mrs. Ray Bell whose mother passed away in Stratford last week. In honor of anniversary ser- vices being held June 10 at Brucefield, there were no ser- vices in St. Andrew's Church Kippen. Kippen East W.I. will meet in the Legion Hall June 20. Glanville, Mrs. William Johns and Mrs. William Rohde went on the Kirkton Horticultural Society bus trip Saturday to the Farmers Market, Coleman Bbwman Studio, Sap Bucket in Elmira, Bon Accord Farm near Elora, and the Enchanted Doll House between Elora and Guelph, Supper was at the Elmira Legion Hall. Mrs. Mildred Allison, Exeter and Mr. & Mrs. Harold Rowe attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Ina Mann, Port Huron Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Jim Etherington, David and Timothy London, Mr, & Mrs. William Etherington, Michael and Jill, Toronto, Mr. & Mrs. John Etherington, Medan Sumatra were weekend guests with their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Archie Etherington. This is the first time in seven years they have all been together. George Luther, Sarnia spent Thursday and Friday with Mr. & Mrs, Chas, Jeffery. Cheryl Westcott and Beverley Passmore returned home Thursday after having spent almost two weeks in Hawaii. About 80 friends and relatives attended the piano recital of pupils of Agnes Bray Saturday in the church.
