Open (Nay 8:00 a.me to 5:30 Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon New counselling service available Starting the first week in July, residents of Exeter and district will be able to take advantage of the services of a "family owl- seller" under the auspices of Information South Huron. For one day per week, a social worker and experienced coun- sellor will be available to advise on all areas of family life and problems, including marital problems; alcoholism and drug abuse as it concerns both the parents and children; financial planning; legal aid; questions concerning welfare; and things like the new provincial medical plan - just about any aspect of family life where problems or questions might ariSe. If the counsellor feels the problem in question should be handled by more specialized people, she will make referrals to the relevant agencies or in- dividuals. Information South Huron is a committee comprised of about 15 interested members of the community, with Keith McLean as chairman. They became interested in establishing a family counselling service as the result of a social services survey which was conducted by the Huron County Social Services Coordinating Committee in 1972, The survey showed that over 80 percent of those questioned felt there was a need in this county for a counselling service. Some thought that early family, marital and budget counselling might prevent family breakdown and save tax dollars in Family Court, Legal Aid, Children's Aid Society and Welfare Allowances, etc. Exeter is the first place in the county to reap the benefits of the survey results. The Social Ser- vices Co-ordinating committee is sponsoring the program and is supplying the personnel. Chairman of the local group, Information South Huron, stressed that the lady who will be doing the counselling is trained and experienced in family counselling, and has done this sort of thing before. "It is a long-term thing, not just an experiment," said Mr. McLean. He also explained that the counselling itself will be long- term if necessary. It was finally agreed to turn the request over to the drains committee for study. Sewer request prompts debate Ken Ottewell, who spearheaded the drive to have Exeter's sanitary sewers completed when he was a member of council last year, learned this week that even when the work is completed he probably won't have any sewer service to a lot he owns on Waterloo St. He attended Monday's meeting of council to present a request for a building permit to erect a home on the lot and discussed the sewer problem with council. He indicated there were several alternatives, ranging from the installation of a septic tank to installing a rear-yard line to connect his proposed house with existing sewers on Mill or Carling St. However, he said the elevation was not good enough to make the WINS CAR hookups with the sewers without The Knights of Columbus installing pumps. annual charities raffle draw was He said the proper thing would be to extend a sewer down,„ hoq_recently by the Ontario State Market and across Waterld6' 'W.t,,,,,Councir at: the Brock Hotel, However members of council noted his would be the only house serviced by such a sewer and it would be too costly for such a small amount of frontage revenue. There was also some question whether the lot size would be large enough for him to get ap- proval for a septic tank bed. Ottewell wondered if council would pay a portion of the cost for a back-lot connection with the existing sewer and Mayor You're in Luck ...
