Nearly 60 mothers and
daughters of Zion Lutheran
church enjoyed a pot-luck supper
Wednesday. Group 3 was in
charge with Mrs. Albert Miller,
convener.
Darlene Rader proposed the
toast to the mothers, responded
to by Mrs. Irvin Rader. Mrs.
Murray Keller and daughter
Karen received prizes for the
mother and daughter with bir-
thdays the closest; Erma Wein
for the daughter with the shortest
name; Shirley VanDorsselaer for
the mother with the longest
name.
A short program was held with
a quartette by Lisa Miller, Lisa
Vandeworp, Sandra Datars, and
Kristine Morgret; a reading and
a solo by Mary Anne Desjardine;
accordion selections, Carol
Rader; trio, Mrs. Vesta Miller
and her daughters, Vicki and
Diane; and a reading by Mrs.
Hilda Rader.
Mrs. Jim Hayter, president,
conducted a brief business
meeting, The Altar Guild
reported 18 visits, 1 flower, and 4
treats, The new Guild is Mrs.
Reinhold Miller and Mrs. Lorne
Genttner. Group 4 with Mrs.
Rosaleen Schenk, convener, is in
charge of the June Birthday
party at the Blue Water Rest

At the 49th annual meeting of
the London Conference of the
United Church of Canada, held at
the University of Windsor, May 8-
10, Rev. Laurie J. Ray officially
terminated his ministry. It is 45
years since Mr. Ray first began
to preach; but his retirement
from the active ministry is due to
ill-health.
He was ordained to the
Christian ministry in 1942, under
Methodism in Johannesburg,
Transval, South Africa. He has
served the church on three
continents and will reside after
June 30 in Beamsville.
He expects to continue in
supply work but will officially
(together with his wife) end a
brief ministry at the Kirkton
Woodham charge.
Vet Club
The second regular meeting of
the Kirkton 4-H veterinary club
was held on Wednesday. The
meeting place was the farm and
beef feed-lot of Alan McDougal,
east of Fullarton.
Members observed the cattle
being fed and 14 members were
present.
Mr. McDougal gave an in-
formative talk on feedlot, cattle,
and some problems encountered.
Dr. Atkinson, Kirkton talked
about diseases and illnesses in
the beef animal and cures for
them.

Approve grants
for area students
The Ontario Department of
Education has approved a grant,
which will provide summer
employment for selected Huron
county students. They will work
on a project to update Huron
County history from 1900-1975.
The grant will be administered
under the Experience '73,
P.E.O,P.L.E. program.
Employment for several
university students is for three
months. One or two high school
students will be employed for two
months.
Huron county council has
undertaken to meet all additional
expenses of the project not
covered by the grant. The project
is under the supervision of county
historian, James Scott.
Candidates will be chosen by a
selection committee. Last date
for applications for work on the
project is May 23. Applications
may be sent to the Clerk-
Treasurer's Office, Godeiich; the
Huron County Board of
Education, Clinton; or to James
R. Scott, Box 325, Seaforth.
