The fifth annual graduation
ceremony held. Friday at
Centralia 's College of
Agricultural Technology was the
largest since the school was
established in 1967.
With 113 young men and women
receiving their diplomas in three
courses, the graduation
ceremonies usually held at Huron
Hall were moved to the spacious
quarters in the former RCAF
recreation centre.
In his welcome address,
principal James MacDonald said
the school enjoyed the ad-
vantages of a small college but
had plenty of expansion potential
as far as graduation was con-
cerned by using the recreation
centre.
MacDonald paid tribute to area
businesses, veterinarians and
project farmers for their co-
operation in supplying facilities
for on the job training.
The guest speaker was Dr. D.
G, Howell, dean of the Ontario
Veterinary College at Guelph
who stressed the importance of
healthy agriculture to the
Canadian economy,
"While farm population is
declining, the farm industry is
actually on the rise and this can
be attributed to ever-increasing
efficiency," said Dr. Howell.

He continued, "Agriculture
output is expanding at the rate of
three percent ,a year in Canada
and this is contributing to the well
being of the country."
Talking about food prices, Dr.
Rowell said Canadians can afford
to put more of their income to
food products. He said Canadians
spend a smaller percentage of
their incomes on food than most
countries in the world.
He listed Canadians and
Britain residents as spending 21
percent of their income 'on food
while the figures in Japan and
Russia were 20 and 27 percent,
respectively.
He said the average weekly
wage of a construction worker in
Canada was $260 while in
England is was $85, $20 in Japan
and $27 in Russia.
Dr. Howell challenged farmers
to maintain the best possible land
husbandry saying Canada has
five percent of the world's
producing land.

Brussels, an honors graduate in
