An attempt to break into St.

Highway 4 south of Exeter failed
early Sunday morning.
Church officials told the in-
vestigating officer Constable
D.R. Vance of the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police that attempts were made
to pry open a front door and a
rear window.
Six persons suffered minor
injuries in a two car crash early
Saturday morning on Highway 4,

Whose feathers
are ruffled?
The pigeons arrived home in
two and one-half hours after they
left Georgetown. It was overcast
so this accounts for the length of
time. They came 80 miles in a
head wind. Winners of the race
were, Mert Culbert, Clarence
Hardy, and George Noyes.
There will be a very interesting
race in a couple of weeks as
pigeons will fly all the way-from
St. Jerome. That's some 400 miles
away. What makes this race
interesting is the fact that some
of the bird owners have got their
feathers a bit ruffled and are
going to go all out to knock these
last winners right out of their
perches.

Lucan
Sunday the flowers in the
church were in memory of Mrs.
Emily Tomes. At the service of
morning prayer Rev. R.A,
Carson preached on the family,
He said there are a great many
pressures on the family today.
One of the things that affects
the family is the earlier age at
which people marry and the
resulting early birth of children.
Another factor affecting the
family is the increased number of
divorced people.
Then too, we are developing
"dormitory" towns. People sleep
one place, but they work, eat, and
entertain somewhere else. This
affects the family and the Church,
Mr. Carson said the Church tries
to meet the changing situation by
marriage counselling, improved
adult education and up-to-date
children's education.
But the real burden of the
family falls on the mother who is
responsible for the early training
of the child. Mr. Carson con-
cluded by saying we need a
return to the family pew, father,
mother and children worshipping
together every Sunday.
The Junior Choir medals were
awarded to Lisa MacKenzie and
John Henderson for attendance
and behavior during April.

The Middlesex county board of
education this week appointed W,
Garfield Garrett as a trustee
representing London township on
the board. Mr, Garrett, a former
member of the board from 1969 to
1972 will fill the vacancy created
by the recent resignation of Mrs,
A. D, Mann.
A delegation of parents of Lord
Dorchester Secondary School
students appeared at the Board's
meeting and presented a brief
expressing concern about the
credit system now used in the
school, They are accompanied by
several students.
Spokesmen for the delegation,
Hans Kanter and Anne Crisp,
said that many parents and
students feel frustrated when
they try to fulfill their respon-
sibilities for selecting subjects,
particularly when there are in-
sufficient numbers of students
'choosing some subjects. When
this happens, the school is unable
to form classes and present the
subjects.
The delegation asked that the
board establish an avenue of
communication which would
permit parents and students to
consult regularly with board
members. They also asked that
public meetings be held to assist
trustees through small group
discussion with parents, to form
board policies. After meeting in
,committee, the board decided to
hold a public meeting in the
Dorchester area May 29.
In other business, the board
granted permission to a group of
secondary school students to use
facilities at Lambeth schools this
summer. The students, Anne
Carroll, Maureen Duffield,
Louise Ennis and Cindy Mann,
will take part in a co-operative
ministry of education program
entitled "Students participating
in community education." They
plan to offer an educational and
recreational program for
children who are too young to
take part in other established
eommumty programs;
