(weather per- mitting) with Easter breakfast following at Thames Road Church. Mr. & Mrs, Don Wilcox and family of Kitchener visited on Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Wm, Routtly. Mrs. John Batten and Helen, Mrs, Lewis Johns and Mrs. David Passmore, Thames Road at- tended a shower for Marie Campbell at the home of Mrs. John Ridley on Saturday evening. Mr. & Mrs. Don Parsons and family, Richard Willert, Mr. & Mrs. Jake Hovius Jr. Hensall and Alvin Cooper were Sunday guests with Mr, & Mrs.Ross Skinner and family. Leroy Workman and Alvin. Cooper visited on Saturday with Mr. & Mrs. Rien Westdorp, New Lowell. The ladies of the Elimville Kitchen Band entertained their husbands on Saturday evening. They had dinner at Dashwood Hotel and following the meal went to the home of Mr. & Mrs, Gilbert Johns where they played euchre. The Good Friday Service will be held at Elimville United Church on Friday evening at 8:30 p,m. with a joint choir from Thames Road and Elimville. By MRS. IRVIN RADER The organization meeting of Brownies was held Wednesday, April 11 with 19 girls present. Mrs. Leroy Gowanlock is leader assisted by Betty Guenther. The District Commissioner, Mrs. L. Nash, St. Marys, was present and will attend four meetings. They were told the Brownie story and were divided into groups of six with the leaders "sixers" and the others "seconders". All eligible girls in the area are welcome. UCW Meeting The April meeting of Calvary United church UCW was an Easter program with the com- munity and friendship group in charge with the theme "set them singing again" and Mrs. Sid Baker, chair-lady. There were pictures, music, and comments on the Easter story. Mrs. Bill Chandler read the scripture and Mrs. Ken McCrae was pianist. Mrs. Bob Hoffman Hully Gully course aids crippled kids Crippled children in Western Ontario were the winners in a special ride sponsored by the London Road Runners and held Sunday at Hully Gully near ' Varna. - More than 100 male riders and 22 powder puff entries par- ticipated in the 26 mile run over the Hully Gully course with all proceeds going to crippled children. About 750 spectators lined the route to watch swamp passes, hill climbs, bush trails and a hilarious river crossing on the Webster farm. Following the run, trophies were presented to the winners at the Hully Gully Chalet. The top winners in the men's and women's divisions were Paul Eaton and Maisie Miles, respectively. Both are from London. By MRS. FRANK PLUMB GRAND BEND Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Vesie of the Pizza Patio returned from a holiday in Hallandale, Florida. Mr. & Mrs. Murray Douglas, Wondergrove Cabins are home again from a holiday in Win- terhaven, Florida. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Flear enjoyed their holiday at Indian Rocks Beach, Florida but are glad to be home. Rev. and Mrs. Willis, visited Lakeland, Florida and found people there neighborly and busy with new craft ideas. Mrs. Irene Hayter is back hairdressing again after her winter vacation at St. Peter- sburg, Florida. Mrs. Pearl Hooper, Mrs. Martha McNair of Ilderton and Mrs. Irene Hayter all left together in January and returned this week. At the United Church morning Palm Sunday service, Rev. Charles Scott of London was the special speaker on "Alcohol and Drugs". On Wednesday 14-year-old Paul Gunning son of Mr. & Mrs. Gunning was rushed to Victoria Hospital, London for special care. He has to be kept quiet and he is making some progress, though is still in serious con- dition. On Thursday afternoon, slide pictures on the Easter Theme of the crucifixion were shown at the meeting of the United Church Women. Lion's President Paul Couse made the draw for the winning ticket won by Doug Courtney for about $161. Last Friday a bus load of 50 Lions and their wives left to at- tend the rehearsal of the "Tommy Hunter Show" at C.B.C. Toronto. At the next show on Friday they may be seen in the audience. Two wedding showers in honor of bride-elect Dorene Baker have been given, by Mrs. Olive Webb, parents, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Martene following surgery, Mr. & Mrs, Everett Haist have returned home from Florida. They found the weather very hot but encountered ice and snow on the way home. and one by Mrs. Wm. Hay of Southeett Pines. The wedding will be on April 28 at the United Church, Grand Bend. Mrs. Mildred Kellerman led in prayer and read several Easter thoughts as slides were shown and Easter songs sung by Mrs. Mervyn Tieman, Mrs. Lloyd Guenther, Mrs. Leroy Gowanlock, and Mrs. Jack Gaiser, The young people will take the ,service Easter morning at 9.45 and the fellowship hour following. The Sunshine committee is Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Bruce Guy. The UCW of Calvary United church sponsored an Inter- national supper at Ailsa Craig United church Wednesday, April 11. Over 100 were in attendance. Ladies Aid Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid held their business meeting following the Wednesday evening service. The pastor's sermon, "Jesus Christ-Superstar" served as the topic. Mrs. Jim Hayter, president, dealt with the business. Plans were completed for serving an anniversary dinner April 28. The altar guild reported 21 visits with five treats. The members of the new guild are Mrs. V.L, Becker and Mrs. Rosaleen Schenk. They are to place lilies on the altar for Easter, Group 3 is in charge of a mother and daughter pot-luck supper in May with all mothers and daughters of the congregation invited. Group 4 will have the birthday party at the Bluewater rest home in June. Personals Mr. & Mrs. Mike Burke and Susan, Brampton, spent the weekend with Milt Haugh. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Becker and family were Mr. & Mrs. Ross Leibold and Jeanette, Stratford, and Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Greb, Preston. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Hoffman were in Toronto last week where Bob attended a refresher course at the Canada School of Embalming. They stayed at the Westbury hotel.
