A newly formed company specializing in fibreglass products has already expanded its business beyond the hopes of the owners. J & J Nash Industries started in a large building on the westerly edge of Ailsa Craig in October of 1972, The company operated by brothers Joe and John Nash presently has a contract to build one thousand canoes for a firm in Nova Scotia. Joe Nash said while they will be doing some production work in the line of canoes he was stressing their speciality of custom tooling. The firm is already doing some custom tooling for Western Ontario in- dustries. In addition to the canoe con- tract from Kinsac Marine of Halifax, the Ailsa Craig firm has had some inquiries from mobile home companies getting into the use of fibreglass in construction. The Kinsac canoes are designed in 14 and 16 foot models. They weigh 75 pounds which allows them to be carried on the top of a car and have a capacity of 850 pounds. Will witness seals in action These canoes are designed for rough waters and are called a white water or wilderness canoe. The Nash brothers hope in the future to manufacture an 18 foot sail boat of their own design and handle sales from the Ailsa Craig plant. Since taking over the 5,000 square foot building formerly occupied by a garage business, farm machinery agency and wood pallet manufacturing, J & J Industries have installed an entire new lighting system and installed doors 12 feet high and 20 feet wide. Before forming their own company both men were involved in the fibreglass and boat building business. Joe Nash was with Hughes Boats at Toronto and Huron Park for five years and previous to that was involved in the fibreglass business in England for seven years. John Nash operated his own woodworking plant in the Toronto area for several years before coming to this area. One of the first machinery purchases made by the new firm was a glasscraft sprayer unit. This fibreglass machine will laminate a canoe in about 15 minutes. At the present time the firm has only one employee in addition to the owners but hopes to expand car, An interesting evening is planned for those who attend the annual educational dinner meeting of the Huron-Perth TB and Respiratory Disease - Association, which this year is being held in Egmondville United Church, Egmondville, Ontario, on Wednesday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m, The speaker will be A, Les McDonald, Program Consultant with the Ontario TBRD Association in Toronto. Along with Mr. McDonald's presen- tation, the program will include "Christmas Seals in Action" by.a small group of children from the Asthmatic Conditioning Class presently in progress. The interesting meeting will hear reports and see what Christmas Seal dollars are doing. Tickets are $2.50 and may be obtained from 121 Wellington St., Stratford or from area representative.
