No uniforms, no hockey sticks,
no coach and no league; one
might think that this would
discourage the Most ardent
hockey players, but at South
Huron District High School, pot
even these factors kept a group of
girls from forming a hockey
team.
Last autumn, as soon as the ice
was put in at the Exeter arena,
the high school girls rounded up
two willing male students who
were promptly signed as
coaches.
Rick Luther and Tony
McDonald worked with the team
throughout the year, although
they said it was "hard to yell at
girls". The coaches both deserve

lacking in skill, but they more
than make up for this in their
enthusiastic desire to play
hockey. With a limited amount of
ice time for practice, and in spite
of a deplorable lack of proper
equipment, they had a good year
and, after all, what other hockey
team do you know that possesses
a perfect record over the 1972-73
season?

credit for much of the team's
success.
Equipment borrowed from
young brothers or neighbottra,
plus some very old sweaters
borrowed from the arena solved
part of the problem, but it
remained difficult to find other
teams for competition.
The girls played several games
against the Centralia
Agricultural College girls' team
and they also played a Seaforth
team. South Huron tied one of
these games and won all the rest.
The season ended in a winning
manner with a 4-3 victory over
the Itensall novice boys.
