The April meeting of the
Hensall Legion Ladies Auxiliary
was held in the Legion Hall
Tuesday evening with President
Mrs. Mildred Chalmers
presiding, Members accepted an
invitation to attend a birthday
party at Seaforth Legion
Auxiliary April 17.
It was announced that the
Easter Basket draw would be
held April 21, with the proceeds to
go towards the Crippled
Childrens Treatment Centre in
London. Vera Smale won the
guessing prize and also the
mystery prize.

UCW units meet
Hold Easter services
Thursday afternoon at the church
with 21 members present. Mrs,
James McAllister, leader,
opened the meeting with a verse
from scriptures, "Examine
yourselves to see if you are
holding the faith." Self
examination is necessary, she
said and she closed with prayer.
Mrs, George Armstrong gave
the devotional on Spring and
Easter when the greatest event of
the Christian Church takes place.
Mrs. Russell Erratt read the
Scripture on the Crucifixion and
the Resurrection, Mrs. Harry
Caldwell gave the study on
education in India.
Mrs, McAllister read a letter
from Jesu Ashram in India,
written by Brother Bob.
Unit II of Hensall U.C.W, met
Monday evening at the Church
for their Easter thank-offering
meeting. Mrs. Joyce Pepper
acted as chairlady and welcomed
everyone and opened with a
poem. Mrs. Lorna Chapman gave
an inspiring devotional on
Easter, with Mrs, Sadie Hoy
reading scripture. The roll call
answered by 12 members was a
verse with the word "joyful" in it.
Hymns were sung with Mrs.
Pearl Passmore accompanying
at the piano. A card of thanks was
read from Mrs, Jelene Keys,
Mrs. Kay Mock conducted the
business portion of meeting
which included discussion of the
general meeting to be held May 7.
Unit II are responsible for
placing flowers in the church for
May and also are to go the
Queensway Nursing Home in
May.
The study on India was taken
by Mrs. Jean Wareing who read
an article from the Life magazine
written by Peter White on "Life
in Calcutta" and also an article
from the Reader's Digest on
Mother Teresa and her work in
India and other countries.
Hostesses were Kay Mock and
Hilda Payne.

Presbyterian Church last
Wednesday with Mrs. Robert
Campbell of Wingham as the
guest speaker, Those attending

Presbyterian Church were Mrs.
Elizabeth Faber, Mrs. Myrtle
Dick, Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and
Mrs. Rachel Schwalm,

A very good crowd was in at-
tendance at the Rebekah Lodge
dessert euchre held in the Lodge
rooms last Wednesday afternoon.
With 13 tables in play the winners
were: high winner on the pink
cards, Mrs. Mel Lamport,
Exeter; high winner on the green
cards, Mrs. R. A, Orr; most lone
hands, Mrs. Annie Morenz, Dash-
wood; low games, Mrs. Idle,
Exeter,
A draw on a bunny-shaped cake
donated by Mrs. Hazel Corbett
was won by Mrs. Pearl Taylor,
Chiselhurst; and a quart of maple
syrup donated by Mrs. Irene
Blackwell was won by Mrs. Ray
Cottle of Exeter,
Mrs. Irene Blackwell, Noble
Grand, presided for the regular
meeting of Amber Rebekah
Lodge on Wednesday evening,
assisted by the Vice Grand Mrs.
Aldeen Volland. Mrs. Dorothy
Corbett gave a report of the
proceeds of the dessert euchre
and sale of baking which was held
in the afternoon with 13 tables in
play.
Mrs. "Volland reported for tie
visiting committee and ex-
pressed sincere thanks to the
representative of the lodge and
Mrs. Maggie Campbell will
substitute for Mrs. Bertha
MacGregor at this meeting. An
invitation was received to a
dessert euchre in MacKay Hall,
Goderich sponsored by Goderich
Rebekah Lodge April 11,
Plans were made to attend the
25th Anniversary of Monkton
Rebekah Lodge, being held in
Atwood Community Centre April
27. Mrs. Bertha MacGregor was
appointed to represent the lodge
at the Grand Lodge Assembly in
Toronto in June and Mrs. Olga
Chipchase will attend as scholar.
A discussion followed on
"President's Project" with the
Ontario Research Committee for
a machine to detect eye disease
in young children.
The Lodge had been contacted
re a pledge towards the pur-
chase of a bus for the Huronview
Home. It was decided to contact
the C.P.T. committee in this
regard.
A committee were appointed to
sponsor a booth at the MacBeath
auction .sale April 21 in Hensall.
District Deputy President of
Huron District No, 23, Mrs,
Margaret Sharpe, Seaforth will
visit the Lodge April 18.

what, The only result is a nagging
feeling which may be either
gastritis, or your pioneer an-
cestors' ghosts haunting you in
the stomach,
Final disillusion. I always
spring for a shoe-shine, It seems
a reasonable luxury, as it's one of
the two or three times a year my
brogues get a brush. Went for it
this time, Halfway through, I
realized the poor devil shining
my shoes was retarded.
I decided to help, in my small
way. I had my quarter ready, but
changed it for a fifty-cent piece.
Gave it to him, feeling sort of
warm inside. He pointed to a sign
behind my head,
It read, "Shoeshines, 50 cents".
It was then I realized which of us
was retarded as I fished for
another two bits.

Pair celebrate
with banquet
Mr. & Mrs. Jack Corbett were
pleasantly surprised on Saturday
evening on the occasion of their
40th wedding anniversary, when
their family entertained them to
a banquet at the Pineridge Chalet
Hensall.
The tables were decorated with
spring flowers, candelabra and
centred with an anniversary
wedding cake.
Mrs. Harry Chapman, London,
who was her sister's bridesmaid,
attended. Roy Morenz of Grand
Bend, a brother of Mrs. Corbett
was master of ceremonies,
They we're presented with
many gifts and their gtdridsori,
Steven Corbett, presented them
with a reprint of Hay Township
taken from "The Historical Atlas
of Huron County in 1879".
Jack and Hazel expressed their
sincere thanks to their family and
relatives for the celebration. The
evening concluded with a social
time and dancing to the music of
Joe Overholt.
