on April 2. A letter from Willard
RUchanan complaining that his
driveway is often blocked by
parked cars led to a discussion
about ways and means of control.
In his vicinity there is a fire
hydrant and cars parked there
can become a hazard in the event
of fire.
Dogs running at large posed
another problem and Clerk Earl,

New sidewalks on South. Rich-
mond St. are breaking up and the
contractor will be asked to in-
spect them and rectify his
mistakes. Action had to be taken
at Mrs. Jean Turner's when
fumes from petroleum leaks
became dangerous.
It is very wet at the dump and
bulldozing will have to wait until
it dries up. The road into the mill
dump needs gravel and the road
into the garbage dump should be
graded and widened as well.
Frank Parsons will be asked to
clean up garbage that has been
left inside the gate.
Ernie Davis reported 34 trees
down and cleaned up and 15 loads
of brush taken to the dump. He
has been filling holes on Nelson
St. and Mill St. but hasn't enough
material to do Brock St. Queen
St. is bad but will have to wait till
it settles, he reported. He was
instructed to put a catch basin in
front of Jim Hyde's house as the
water is 14 inches deep there,
Councillor H. Knight reported
that there should be a public
hearing in Hensall during the
month and if everything went
well, work on sewers might get
started within the year. He
reported progress on the
questionnaire regarding Cable
TV. Those heard from so far are
6 to 1 in favor.
Regarding the village fireman,
Mr. Knight said they would like
$8 for meetings, the same as
PUC members. They also wanted
some information on provisions
made should they get hurt in the
line of duty. Council decided to
have firemen insured with Work-
mens Compensation for $8,000 or
approximately $117 per week if a
fireman was laid up following
injuries. Council decided to
request Don Joynt to attend a
meeting to explain insurance as it
would affect council members,
Councillor Paul Neilands
wanted to know what Council
intended to do about Parks Board
plans for the arena. It was
suggested that information be
gathered on what the adjacent
townships would contribute.
Ernie Davis was appointed
weed inspector and a building
permit was issued to Don Smale
to build an addition to his house.
Library rent was fixed at $300
and Mr. Knight was in favor of
renovating the town hall to make
more space available for the
library. Mr. Neilands wondered if
it could be done as a winter works
program.
