FRIDAY NIGHT SPECIAL
Exeter man
is director
Richard E, Pooley and Murray
A. Greene, gxpter, were among
some 1500 delegates from
throughout the province who
attended the Ontario Municipal
Electric Association convention
Murray Greene was elected one
of the directors of the OMEA.
OMEA represents about 350
member municipalities with
approximately 2,000,000 "hydro"
customers.
A highlight of the conference
was an address by William
Davis, Premier of Ontario.
Mr, Davis is presently studying
the report of Task Force Hydro, a
body he appointed to make
recommendations for the future
of Ontario Hydro.
The Ontario Government is not
planning a "take-over" of the
electricity system in the
province, Premier Davis told
the convention,
Local electrical utilities will
remain as separate entities to
collaborate with Hydro under
contract agreements and
distribute electricity to their
communities,
However, control of Ontario
Hydro does and should lie with
the Legislature, he told
delegates.
There are two lines of thought
on who owns Hydro, he said. One
is that the system is co-
operatively owned by the local
electric utilities and that the
individual customer is a
shareholder. The other is that
Hydro is an agency of the
government, with control
exercised by the legislature.
The Task Force took the latter
view, said Mr. Davis.
"This is not to say that the
municipal utilities do not have
some financial stake in Hydro,"
he added. "This was recognized
by Task Force Hydro in its
recommendation that the interest
of the utilities be formally
recognized and defined by the
issuing of certificates to par-
ticipating utilities representing
that interest."
Although these certificates
would carry non-voting rights, it
has always been his view that
municipalities should have a
voice in the affairs of the new
Hydro Corporation, said Mr.
Davis,
The government has agreed to
Hydro becoming a crown cor-
poration, he said, "but certainly
not with the aim of turning
Hydro into a vast, profit-making
commercial enterprise con-
trolled by the Government,"..

Living is a difficult business for
everyone, But especially for
older people in our society.
Bodily defenses tend to break
down in old age and people
become vulnerable to a variety of
ills. Active tuberculosis is one of
those ills.
Many older people who develop
active TB today were infected
years ago when the disease was
widespread. But they showed no
noticeable symptoms. Gradually
their bodies walled off the TB
germs. White blood cells first
encircled the germs, then special
tissues, and finally calcium. The
TB germs were encased.
When the body's defenses
weaken, however, the barriers
around the germs start to
crumble. Then the TB germs
escape and multiply. Fatigue
weakness, coughing, and weight
loss can be symptoms of active
disease. Drug therapy can cure
the disease; but many older
people do not receive proper
medical care.
Poor diet and failing general
health are some of the conditions

of seams were discussed; French
seam and flat felled seam were
that help weaken the body's
defenses. And diet is often sadly
neglected by older people. Their
dietary requirements shift with
age — they need fewer calories
but just as much protein — and
most older people eat the wrong
kinds of foods. Fresh meat and
vegetables are expensive; and
many older people are living on
marginal budgets, Shopping and
cooking is difficult for them.
Youngef relatives and friends
can take an increased interest in
seeing that older people eat
better and be healthier,
