generation has taught us."

mary of 4-H, the spring project,
"Clothes for leisure" will begin

Church news
A large congregation heard the
minister continue the series of
sermons on the question, "Why?"
"Why Did Jesus Have to Die?"
Mr. Tupling pointed out the irony
in the death of Jesus as a
Messianic pretender, although he
was not claiming to be Messiah in
any sense that would bemeaning-
ful to Pilate.
The question arises; Why is it
the ,great and good leaders who
die 'violently? But Jesus was not
Aut,,,a,,,goat leader of men: he
was the.on of God, and the hope
of the world for salvation. Then
why was he allowed to die so
young? The Bible tells us that it
was "according to the definite
plan and foreknowledge of God".
God planned that his Son should
die, in order to demonstrate the
awfulness of sin and the
redeeming power of love. And
Jesus was aware of the part that
he must play. Of course, that
awareness didn't make it any
easier, as his experience in the
gaeden indicates. But without the
crucifixion there would have
been no resurrection, and it is on
the Resurrection that we pin our
hopes.

Branch 540's second mixed
bowling party is now past history
and I must say a very, fine time
was had by a very fine turn out of
sports— yes I say sports because
we were not all bowlers but we
joined in on the fun and games
and had a real enjoyable time.
Following the bowling the best
was yet to come with another
fabulous pot luck dinner and for
the second time in a month I
found that my eyes were larger
than my tummy but by golly that
food sure looked and tasted good.
Our good friend of Legion Tom
Noyes was on hand to supply the
entertainment.
So you see folks all in all we had
a real fine afternoon. Now here is
some more good news — by
popular demand a third mixed
bowling party will be held on
Sunday, March 25. Keep this date
in mind I'm sure you and your
lady will have a happy time.
Oh, yes the winners -of Sunday's
two games played — men's high,
Moe Wagner 413; women's high,
Loretta Dickson 370; and you
know what, men's high, Bruce
Isaac 233, women's high, Helen
Dauncey 170.
Branch 540 will sponsor an open
mixed dart tournament on
Saturday March 24 - with $250.00
in cash prizes. The cost will be
$10.00 per 4 man team - Come on
over to 540 folks where the first
item on the agenda is always
hospitality.
I guess its back to the drawing
board forthe'Lucan ',dart players
from all reports our good
Comrades of Exeter Branch
really slaughtered them.
However the name of the game is
participation and good
comradeship - this inter branch
sports is the start of a good thing -
keep up the good work Comrades,
