Sunday Exeter led all the way
with Port Dover scoring with
final minutes of the game to spoil
the sheet out for LaurieSkinner.
Exeter will now meet either

The Exeter Hawks with a big
third period rally Tuesday night
took a big lead in their best-of
seven Ontario Hockey
Association Junior "D" group
semi-final series with the Clinton
Mustangs.
Down 2-U after two periods of
play, the Hawks roared back with
one of their patented rallies to
score three times and edge the
Mustangs 3-2.
in other games this week, the
Hawks took the Friday night
game in Exeter by a 6-4 count
while the Mustangs were winners
by a score of 8-5 on their home ice
Sunday night.
Tuesday night's win gives the
Hawks a three games to one lead
in the series with one game tied,
The sixth game is schedule for
the Clinton arena Friday night at
8.30 with a seventh if necessary
back in Exeter Sunday afternoon
at two o'clock.
In other league playoff action,
the Belmont Sunsets downed the
Lucan Irish in three straight
games while the Mitchell Hawks
disposed of the Strathroy
Falcons. These two clubs are now
meeting in a semi-final set with
the winner meeting Exeter or
Clinton.
Gill Nets Winner
Pete Gill fired the winning goal
in Tuesday's exciting Hawks win
with less than three minutes to go
in regulation time. Brian Bestard
started the play up the left boards
passed the puck over to Perry
Stover who in turn relayed to Gill
and the puck was in the net
sending the Exeter portion of the
650 fans into an uproar.
The tying goal only three
minutes earlier found Jim
Guenther not only starting the
play but finishing it off with an
excellent effort,
The Hawks captain who is the
backbone of the defensive corps
picked up the puck near centre
ice moved over the Clinton
blueline with a good burst of
speed and hit Murray Parsons
with a good pass on the right
wing.
Parsons took one step and sent
the puck back in front of the net
and Guenther flying in fired a
successful shot into the net and
then crashed into the back-
boards.
The first Exeter goal came at
the 3.34 mark of the third period
when Brian Bestard scored from
the side of the net when his shot
hit a Clinton defender's skate and
bounced into the net. Perry
Stover and Pete Glover drew
assists on the play.
Dan Colquhoun scored for the
Mustangs in the first period and
Ron Grahamtallied in the second
session to give Clinton a 2-0 lead
going into the third period.
Both goal tenders John Hayter
of the Hawks and Gary Yeoman
of Clinton turned in outstanding
efforts to keep the score at a low
level.
Win in third
In Clinton Sunday night, the
Mustangs scored five times in the
third period while the Hawks
could only reply with two goals
and this provided the difference
in the 8-5 victory for the home
club.
The Hawks took a 3-2 lead in the
first period and the Mustangs
scored the only marker of the
middle frame to square the score.
Pete Glover was the scoring
star for the Hawks with a three
goal performance. He scored
twice in the first period and with
a goal by Harry &nits gave the
Hawks a one goal lead. Dan
Colquhoun and Mike Anstett
replied for the Mustangs.
13111 McDougall of Clinton
scored the only goal of the second
period and the score was 3-3. At
the 55 second mark of the third,
the Hawks took a short-lived lead
as Murray Parsons scored one
three-way effort with Brian
Campbell and Jim Guenther.
in less than two minutes, Bill
Crawford tied the score again for
the Mustangs and in quick order
Gary Cummings and Paul
Johnson each scored twice to
ensure the Clinton win.
Glover was back at 32.37 to
complete the Exeter and game
scoring with the assist going to
Brian Taylor.
Stover Leads Win
Perry Stover's two goals in the
third period gave the Hawks their
6-4 win over the Mustangs on
Exeter ice, Friday night.
Play was even in the early part
of the game with each team
scoring two goals in each of' the
first and second periods.
