NEW WAY,
Read What The Bible Says:
Romans 121.22, `. . now God has shown us a different way to
heaven - not by "being good enough" and trying to keep his
laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Old
Testament told about it long ago.) Now God says He will accept
and acquit us - declare us "not guilty" if we trust Jesus Christ to
take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by
coming to Christ no matter who we are or what we have been
like!

Rev. R,A. Carson used a chart
rack to present the sermon. He
said we all need to have a goal in
life. This goal for a Christian is to
be like Jesus Christ. To be perfect
is to be kind, honest, patient, and
helpful. It is sin that causes us to
fail, but it is by prayer and study
that we become more Christ-like.
Mr. Carson concluded by saying
that the person who has tried to
live the God-like life, can face
death victoriously.

winter retreat
Medway Choir has been invited

United
Mr. Tupling continued the'
series of sermons on the question
"Why?", asking: "Why Does God
Allow Evil?" He pointed out that
evil is the central problem of
religion. Some have been at-
tracted to Christ and some have
been "turned off" religion en-
tirely by the same set of cir-
cumstances.
He developed the sermon
around two statements: "Evil is
only evil insofar as man is in-
volved"; and "God can use evil
for the furtherance of his good."
There is no evil in nature, which
operates according to the laws of
God; but there is evil in man, who
seeks to be free from God's law,
and interferes both in the balance
of nature and the natural rights of
other men.
The Cross of Christ is the an-
swer to human evil, because it
symbolizes the triumph of one
man over the forces of evil which
are latent in human nature.

540's energetic Sports
Officer Li'l Len Fisher sure has
an active sports program in
progress. All one has to do is look
at the branch bulletin boards to
keep abreast with the up and
coming events, One that comes to
mind is mixed bowling which will
be held this Sunday February 25
at the Lucan Lanes, the games
get under way at 3:00 p.m. sharp.
We urge all members who
anticipate taking part in our
second bowling match to please
come over to the Legion Hall
prior to three so that we can get
the teams made up. Remembei-
these are strictly fun games, and
it does not matter if you know
how to bowl or not, ask those who
attended 'the last 'games', and I
use the word advisedly, we had a
ball.
Don't forget the pot luck dinner
at the legion hall which follows
the bowling, if this dinner shapes
up anything like the last one, it
will be another day to be long
remembered. So remember the
date that's this Sunday at 3:00
p.m. sharp for an afternoon of
bowling, sing a long and eats. See
you there.
As Branch 540 is the defending
Zone A 5 Cribbage champion; of
1972 it will be our honor to host
and defend our championship on
Saturday March 3 at 2:00 p.m. in
the Lucan Legion Hall, All
regular members who are ex-
perts at the old 15-2 are asked to
keep this date in mind and leave
his or her name with Comrade
Len Fisher.
Remember Comrades these
are progressive games, the
winners at Zone level move up
and represent Zone A-5 in the
District A competitions and the
winners here represent District A
in the Provincial contest.
The teams taking first place at
each of the level competitions
bring the cribbage tournament
back with them at that level and
their Branch has the honor of
hosting the games the following
year,
Let's have a fine turnout of
cribbage players Comrades and
make every attempt to keep the
championship in Active Branch
540.
