Ladies' groups meet
Study Indian food,
Unit I
Anita Cook presided for the
February meeting of Unit I UCW
with 15 members present. She
opened with a poem and with
Helen Goddard at the piano,
hymns were sung. The scripture
reading told of the feeding of the
5000 and was followed by prayer.
In her message, she suggested we
should be doing more for people
in India than sending food; that
missionaries, doctors and nurses
and all workers think it very
important to teach them to
provide food for themselves.
Anita then read a clipping from
the paper "Man and his world",
Doreen Spencer gave many
interesting highlights from the
study book "Ask a man about
India". India's Prime Minister
Indira Gandhi is very concerned
about her people and is trying to
close the gaps between the rich
and poor. People have to be
taught a properly balanced diet.
Even the rich don't know how to
buy, the result being thousands of
children growing up physically
and mentally handicapped. We
are now trying to help these
people learn better health rules
as well as nutrition. Doreen and
Anita gave an interesting
