Jets lead league by three,

the Jets .trounced the Preston
,Jesters10-5 at the Ilderton arena,
Wednesday night,
The Lucan-Ilderton club get
back into thicker competition this.

The battle for first place in the
Ausable Valley Rec hockey
league tightened up considerably
as the result of Sunday's usual
doubleheader at the Exeter
arena.
Ailsa Craig came within one
point of the league leading Lieury
club as they edged them 7.5,
Lieury continues in first place
with 17 points but Ailsa Craig is
only one point back,
In Sunday's other contest, the
Shipka )3ulldogs edged Brinsley
2-1 in a well played game.
Brinsley is in third place in the
league standings with six points
and Shipka is one back in the
basement.
Bob Chapdelaine's goal at 16.17
of the third period gave the
Shipka club their second win of
the season. Brian Hodgins was
the other Shipka scorer while
week when they see action on
three occasions. Friday night
they travel to Preston to meet the
Jesters, Sunday night they are at
home at the Ilderton arena to the
Durham Huskies for a 7.30
contest and Tuesday night they
pay a visit to the Woodstock
Royals,
The Jets with 19 wins, four
losses and one tie have a season
point total of 38, three more than
the second place Stratford
Perths. The Durham Huskies are
third spot and the Bothwell
Barons follow in fourth place.
Playing coach Jack Nairn was
the top Jet scorer in the 10-5 win
over Preston. Nairn scored two
goals in the first period and
added another in the middle
frame and also picked up two
assists to account fOr a five point
night.
He opened the scoring at 2.29 on
a three-way passing effort with
Dave Revington and Steve
Proctor and was back six •
minutes later to count again with
Greg Revington notched the lone
Brinsley counter.
Don McAlpine and Bob
Donaldson each scored a pair of
goals to pace the Ailsa Craig
scoring attack. Single goals were
notched by Charlie Eddy, Gwen
Griffith and Dave Collins,
Scoring one goal each for
Lieury were Ernie Schlegel, Gord
Walsh, Stan Harwood, Brian
Ropp and Paul Glavin.

period to put the clubs on even
terms.
The Jets outscored the visitors
5-2 in the second session to take a
comfortable lead, Jamie Robb hit
the mark with two successful
shots, one coming on a power
play with assists going to Jim
Pinnegar and Steve Proctor,
Other scorers for the L-I club in
the second were Pete Loveless,
Terry Bourne and Barry
Baynham. Replying for Preston
were Don Harmer and Ted
Goertzen.
In the final twenty minutes of
play Jack Nairn finished off a
three-way effort with Bill Dunnell
and Pete Loveless at 12,21 and
Jacques cousineau tallied a
minute later taking passes from
Bill Fairbairn and Bill Bourne.
With only 19 seconds left in the
game, Loveless notched his
second marker of the night on a
play started by Jamie Robb and
Nairn. The final Preston goal was
shot by Don Harmer.
The wrestling team from South
Huron District High School added
more laurels to their already
formidable record Saturday
when they won the Waterloo
Collegiate Invitational tour-
nament,
In taking the Waterloo crown,
the South Huron wrestlers, the
only entry from a rural high
school defeated 15 other teams
including the 1971 and 1972
winners from Newtonbrook of
Toronto.
The other schools entered were
from Toronto, Hamilton, Oak-
ville, Burlington, Kitchener and
Waterloo.
Also this week, the local
grapplers continued their win-
ning ways in Huron-Perth Con-
ference action by downing
Clinton 64-9 and blanking
Wingham 81-0.
In addition to taking the team
championship at Waterloo, two
SH wrestlers won individual titles
and three others reached the final
round,
The individual winners Were'
Paul Reaburn at 106 pounds and
Art Westelaken competing in the
136 pound division. Gerard
Charrette, Bill Degroot and Dave
Cyr made the final rounds and
placed second.
Finishing fourth were Don Van
Raay, Barry Miller, Mike Miller,
Paul Greb and Marc Gelinas.
During the three meets this
week, Gerard Charrette was the
most successful wrestler winning
no less than nine matches. Close
behind with seven wins apiece
were Paul Reaburn and Art
Westelaken.
Three of Exeter's minor
hockey teams participated in five
Shamrock league games this
week with clubs from Lucan and
Ilderton,
Reaburn was also named the
best wrestler of the week and
Westelaken was designated the
most improved. Mark Paton
gained the fastestpin taking care
of his opposition in 50 seconds.

replying for the Braves.
In the second period, Tavistock
took over and scored three times
in the first eight minutes with
Rosendale, Ken Matheson and
Ron Gill doing the counting.
Before the period was over,
Pete Glover and Gerald Weido
retaliated for the Hawks to cut
the Tavistock lead to a single
goal.
Michigan clubs
at Huron Park
Games involving three teams
from Royal Oak, Michigan
featured the annual Minor
Hockey Day at Huron Park,
Saturday,
The visiting Michigan clubs
were able to pick up only one win
in the three starts. Royal Oak
won the pee wee contest by a
score of 2.0 while Huron Park
took the novice contest 4-2 and the
Bantam game by a score of 7-3,
Matt Muller led the Huron Park
bantams to their victory with a
two goal effort while single
scores were recorded by Brad
Perzul, Brian Lather, Mike
Wood, Randy Somerville and Ian
Fowles.
Scoring in single fashion for the
Huron Park novice were Steve
Gibbs, Ralph Wells, Mark Cronyn
and Mike Clarke,
In Friday night action, the
Huron Park midgets downed the
coaches and managers by a score
of 10-5. Matt Muller was the top
goal producer with three while
Gerald Van Osch, Bert Rilett and
Randy Funs ton were close behind
with two goals apiece. Scott Ross
added a single score.
Terry Millman scored twice to
Wednesday night at the Exeter
arena, Lucan scored a double
victory with a 4-2 pee wee victory
and a 6-4 decision in the ban-
tam contest.
The next night at Ilderton, the
hometown pee wees edged
Exeter 4-3 while the bantam and
midget games were won by
Exeter by respective scores of 2-1
and 3-0.
Third period goals by Steve
Kennedy and Jeff Marshall
produced the Ilderton pee wee
win. Marshall had scored earlier
along with John Hartman,
Scoring in single fashion for
Exeter were Danny Bell, Randy
Fisher and David Bogart.
Ken Pinder scored a three-way
passing effort with Jim Webb
and Brian Horrell to give the
Exeter bantams their 2-1 win
over Ilderton.
Webb scored the first Exeter
goal with Grant Clark replying
for Ilderton.
Dave Regier, Brian Taylor and
Wayne Regier took care of the
Exeter midget scoring. Jamie
Wilson and Roger Lewis each
scored twice to pace the Lucan
pee wee win. Notching the Exeter
goals were Tony Mattucci and
Paul Van Gerwen,
Four unanswered goals in the
third period allowed Lucan to
chalk up the 6-4 bantam win,
Wednesday.
Pat Benn and Cecil Nickles
took care of the Lucan scoring ,
with three goals apiece.
The Exeter scoring was well
spread around with Doug Osgood,
Howard Schenk, Paul Shapton
and Doug Regier firing the shots.
In Ilderton Monday night, the
three Exeter teams came up with
Shamrock league victories. The
pee wees scored a decisive 7-1
win, the bantams edged out a
decision and the midgets won by
a score of 3-1,
The Exeter pee wee scoring
was well spread around with
seven players hitting the
scoreboard. They were Randy
Parsons, David Bogart, Steve
Skinner, Ron Bilcke, Paul
Pooley, Perry Pooley and Darryl
Preszcator.
The lone Ilderton marksman
was Ron Taylor,
The Exeter bantam goals were
notched by Jim Webb and Ken
pace the coaches scoring attack.
Checking in with one goal each
were Don Ross, Bob Bogdon and
Gord Boardman.
In a juvenile game London
downed Huron Park 8-1. Larry
Mexihard was the only
marksman for the losers.

continues
The tie for first place in the
Exeter Legion mixed dart league
continues as the two top clubs,
the Sharpshooters and Canners
each came up with four points in
Friday's action to up their season
point total to 60.
The Dart Sharks are com-
fortably in third place with 55
points while the Dark Angels hold
down fourth spot with 49 points
to their credit.

Minor Hockey Day in Exeter
last Saturday was the best and
Most rewarding for E,M,II.A. to
date. Over one thousand people
attended the all day event, Fifty
loaves of bread were made into
sandwiches and eaten-up by the
hungry youngsters plus hundreds
of cups of pop.
On behalf of E.M.H.A. I would
like to thank all those who helped
to make the day a success.
Exeter minor hockey teams
will be starting into the first
round of play-off shortly, Games
have to be arranged as yet but the
first round must be completed by
about February 10.
The figure skating carnival is
coming up on Saturday February
24. There will be two presen-
tations, an afternoon and
evening.
Hawks have only two more
home games left before the play-
offs. Lucan is here this Friday
and then the first Sunday game of
the season will be Clinton here on
February 11.

Minor Hockey Day, Conklin
bombed Cowan's BP 15-0 and
Lankamp's Esso edged Taylor
Motors 3-2,
Jeff Newby led the attack for
Conklin with five goals. Joey
Becker was next in line with
three goals. Dave Jackson had a
two goal performance and Ian
Sweet, Bill Simmons, Allan
Geiser, Jeff Fuller and Murray
Heywood one goal each, Steve
Wells was honored with the shut-
out.
Larry Dawson got the winning
goal to lead the Esso win. John
Stephens and Steve Pearce
scored the other goals. David Bell
and Don Beaver were the Taylor
marksmen.
Pee wee action saw Nor-
thlander down Avcos 6-2 and
Nothers defeated Elaine's 3-1.
Randy Parsons with four goals
led his team in the win over
Avcos. Darrell Preszcator and
Paul Gaiaer scored the others.
David Bogart scored two goals
for Avcos,
Pave Holtzman led Nothers
with two goals and Brad Taylor
notched the other, Brian Mercer
