The Exeter area achievement
day for 4-H homemaking clubs
was held Saturday in South
Huron District High School with
10 clubs participating.
The highlight of the afternoon
program was the presentation of
county and provincial honros.
Seven girls successfully com-
pleted six units and thus achieved
their county honors. They were
Judy Hun, Margaret Parsons,
Connie Miners, Janice Alexan-
der, Joyce Webber, Joan Pym
and Barbara Miller.
Five girls achieved their
provincial honors by the suc-
cessful completion of 12 units.

Legion auxiliary

The Exeter Legion Ladies
Auxiliary held their regular
meeting January 22 with
President Barb Hun presiding.
There were 28 members present,
and Edna Snell won the mystery
prize.
Eleanor Blommaert was
elected to the executive.
The auxiliary made a number
of donations, including $25 to the
Figure Skating Club, $25 to
Westminster Hospital, $25 to
the Ontario Mental Health
Association and $250 to the
Ontario Legion Command
Bursary. They also paid a $25
membership renewal to the South
Huron Mental Health
Association.
A card and dart party is
planned for February 14.
Starting Monday, January 29,
members of the auxiliary and
friends will be helping to canvass
for the March of Dimes Ability
Fund.
Mr. and Mrs, W. Coates ac-
companied by Harry Hirtzel,
Crediton, and Mrs. Keith Tyndall
and daughter Karen, Clinton
motored to Peterboroughfor the
weekend when they all attended
luncheons and banquets in
conjunction with the Ontario
Hereford Cattle Convention.
There was the crowning of the
Hereford Queen for 1973 who is
Karen Tyndall, Clinton.

The regular meeting of the
Trivia Memorial A.C.W. was
held Monday afternoon at the
rectory with Mrs. R. Doidge
presiding, The devotions were
read by Mrs. A. Elston with Mrs.
C. Dinney giving the Bible
reading. The roll call was taken
The Alpha Pi chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi sorority met Tuesday
night at the home of Mrs. Earl
Compbell. The roll call was to
name your favorite speaker and
tell why you enjoyed him or her.
A ski-doo party is in the
planning stages and the ways and
means committee reported that
they are sending a letter the

A general meeting of the
U,C.W. of Exeter United Church
was held Monday evening, with
Unit 3 in charge of the program.
The meeting opened with a
devotional period conducted by
Mrs. Jim Russell, assisted by
Mrs. Don Hooper and Mrs. Glen
Fisher,
Guests speaker, Mrs, L. Hicks,
Centralia, was introduced by
Mrs. R. Dinney and thanked by
Mrs. G. Fisher.
Mrs, Hicks gave a very in-
teresting and informative talk,
illustrated by slides, of her trip
through Africa. The business
period was chaired by Mrs. R,
Coates, U.C.W. president.
Dates for a number of fund
raising events were discussed. A
budget of $4760 for 1973 was ac-
cepted.
It was decided to send used
greeting cards to Taiwan. The
annual Huron Perth U.C.W.
Presbyterial will be held in
Seaforth, on February, 28.

It was decided to hold a dinner
on February 8 and also to hold the
annual pancake supper March 6.
Mrs. Doidge and Mrs. L. Gibson
book are going very well. Plans
were also made to celebrate
Founder's Day and the sorority's
25th anniversary in April.
The program for the evening
was given by Sharon O'Toole,
with the theme of "Speaking on
radio and television" and 'You
and your audience".
She gave a short talk and then
involved every one in a warm-up
game, designed to get rid of all
excess energy before a speech.
She then had three girls do
pantomimes for different
emotions; despair, elation and
weariness. The members also
conducted a continuous speech by
picking up the last noun from the
speaker before them, and con-
tinuing the subject for 15 more
seconds.
Then Sharon gave the main
points to remember in organizing
a speech. She said you must first
attract audience attention; make
a specific point; illustrate the
point; and take specific action,
were appointed to the property
committee.
The social service report was
given by Mrs. M. Greene. It was
decided to send another bale to
the west.
Rev. Anderson showed a very
interesting missionary film on.
the Keewatin diocese. This
diocese is among the Cree
Indians of northern Manitoba and
far northern Ontario. The diocese
is so large that the church owns
airplanes, and the ministers must
be pilots in order to fly to their
various charges.
