It is through the monies
received on special days such as
this that Exeter Minor Hockey
Association is able to keep
registration fees at a minimum.
It is not only the financial picture,
we look at but the interest of the
community toward an event like
this.
I am sure the coaches and
managers of the teams feel their
efforts are more appreciated if
there is good response on minor

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets thanks
to two come-from-behind efforts
this week continue to hold down
first place in the Ontario Hockey
Association Senior "B" league.
The Jets downed the Bothwell
Barons 5.4 in Ilderton Friday
night with three consecutive
goals in the third period and
Sunday afternoon in Durham
they gained a 7-7 tie with the
Huskies after trailing 7.3 early in
the third period.
After last night's game at home
against the Preston Jesters, the
Jets will be idle for more than a
week until Friday, February 2
when they travel to Preston for a
return game. The next home
game will be on Sunday,
February 4 with the Durham
Huskies providing the opposition
for a 7.30 contest,
The Jets now have a season
record of 18 wins, four losses and
a pair of ties good for 38 points
and a four point margin over the
second place Stratford Perths,
Only seconds lett
In Durham Sunday afternoon,
the Jets down 7-3 at the two
minute mark of the third period
came roaring back to score four
times to get on even terms with
the Huskies.
Pete Loveless fired his third
goal of the game with only 15
seconds remaining in regulation
time to gain the tie. It came on a
backhand shot from in close on
help from Bill Dunnell and Jack
Nairn as the L-I net was empty
and six men on the attack,
In the overtime period, the Jets
carried the majority of the play
and Jacques Cousineau hit the
Durham goal post on two oc-
casions but the puck refused to go
over the goal line.
The first period belonged ex-
contrast in scores. Nother's
blanked Northlanders 10-0 while
Avcos edged Elaine's 3-2.
Dave Atthill and Dave Holtz-
mann provided most of the
scoring power for the lopsided
Nother's win with four goals
apiece. Scoring single goals were
Ron Backe and Mike Ondrejicka.
John Van Roestel scored twice
to lead the Avco scoring. The
third goal was fired by David
Cann. Scoring for Elaine's were
Ron Bilcke and Paul Gaiser.
elusively to the Huskies as they
moved ahead 3.0 on goals by
Dave May, Joe McRae and Bill
Clemens.
The middle session was even
with both teams scoring three
times. McRae took care of all of
the Durham marksmanship with
three consecutive goals to run his
game total to four.
The three Lucan-II der ton
markers came on three-way
combination efforts. Bill Fair-
bairn notched the first with
assists going to Jacques
Cousineau and Jamie Robb.
Pete Loveless whistled in a slap
shot on a play started by
defencemen Bill Bourne and Bill
Dunnell. With only 41 seconds left
in the period Fairbairn netted his
second goal of the night. This
time the assists went to Jack
Narn and Jim Pinnegar.
Early in the third period, Dale
Rahn tallied for the Huskies to
give them a margin and what
looked like a sure win.
Jack Nairn kept the Jets hopes
alive with a successful shot at
12.49 and only 50 seconds later
Jim Pinnegar hit the mark. At
16.37 Pete Loveless fired in a
backhand shot to cut the Durham
margin to 7-6 and set the stage for
his tying goal with only seconds
left.
Same story
Friday night on home ice at the
Ilderton arena, it was the same
story with the Jets falling behind
4-2 early in the third period and
coming on strong to pull out the 5-
4 decision,
The first period was even with
Jim Pnnegar registering for the
Jets and Kent Byrnes replying
for Bothwell. Both teams notched
single goals in the middle frame.
Jack Nairn was the L-I sharp-
shooter and Gary Chinnick was
the Bothwell shooter. In the first
four minutes of the final period,
Bothwell scored twice on goals by
Chinnick and Gary Hamilton to
take a two goal lead.
At 5,01 Jamie Robb cut the
deficit to a single goal and three
minutes later Bill Dunnell
squared the score, Robb's
marker came on a power play
with assists going to Jacques
Cousineau and Jack Nairn. Nairn
and Pete Loveless assisted on the
Dunnell score, Loveless was back
to net the winner with only a
minute and eleven seconds
remaining on a play set up by
Barry Baynham and Bill Dun-
nell.
Don Stewart was in goalforthe
Jets in both games.
