Make it a point to attend, whether or not you are a dart player, you will enjoy the Comradeship that goes along with good sports. Here is something that will be of interest to all members of Branch 540 and their ladies and incidentally will be a first for the Action Branch. On Sunday, January 28 between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Branch 540 will take over the Lucan Bowling Lanes for the purpose of holding mixed bowling. Here is the picture as I get it, the bowling is to be strictly for fun and whether you bowl or not -everyone is welcome - All names are placed In a 'hat and as -they are picked, this is your team, bowlers and non bowlers all mixed up - sure sounds like a lot of fun, following the games all participants adjourn to the Legion Hall for a pot luck supper and a sing song. Make it a point to come along, if enough members enjoy themselves and so desire, this could become a monthly event. See you there folks. Incidentally when you have a moment it might be a good idea to let Li'l Len our Sports Officer know if you intend to participate, this will give him some idea on how many to expect. The comrade of Branch 540 extend a vote of thanks to Comrade Macintosh and his good wife for donating Comrade Dandy Boy of Lucan to the Branch for a draw the proceeds of which went to bolster our Building Fund $40, also tips its beret to Roy Scott whose Christmas cake draws netted $62.50 to be added to the Branch Sports Fund. And to mention a few winners, of course you are always a winner when you are a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, especially Branch 540. Winner of the Sports 50-50 draw was Helen Wagner - winner of the Early Bird Draw was Comrade Charles Couglin and Comrade Murray Hodgins was drawn for the at- tendance draw, he not being in attendance makes the draw worth $10.00 for the February general meeting. Don't forget February 10th is the date for 540's Sports club first annual Calico Valentines Ball- Officers of the Lucan detach- ment of the Ontario Provincial Police moved into spacious new quarters earlier this month. The new building which houses the detachment is 85 feet by 36 .feet with net usable square footage of 2,985 feet. The Lucan detachment now headed by Sgt. Sid Daley has grown considerably in manpower since it was first opened 12 years ago in a small building at the corner of Main and William streets, The detachment came into being on January 1, 1961 and consisted of Corporal Bill Anglin and four constables. Anglin is now a sergeant with the Strathroy detachment. The only officer of the original force with the detachment is Corporal Don Cox who came from London. He was promoted to corporal in March, 1969. The other corporal presently with the detachment is Corporal Bernie Crane who has been in Lucan for seven years. Sgt. Daley is a 26 year veteran with the OPP after serving five years in the RCNVR. He joined the force as a constable at the Lakehead in 1946. He was promoted to corporal in 1954 and sergeant in 1965 and was India theme for girls At a recent meeting of the Lucan-Clandeboye explorers, 11 girls and two counselors, Mrs. W. Froats and Mrs. D. O'Neil began to learn about India. They ex- perimented dressing one another in a sari, an Indian dress. A lovely sari of pink with silver embroidery was displayed. Mrs. O'Neil told many in- teresting facts about the elephant and how it is used in India. Two story books on India may be taken home to read, "The Buffalo and the Bull" and "The Golden Coin". Mrs. Ivan Hearn arrived to lead a discussion on a filmstrip, "Toward self-help for India". She also used books, pictures and posters. The girls are to collect used stamps for the Bible Society and small pictures of water to show its uses. The next expedition is January 22, and each girl is to tell, a fact about India.
