Elder presided, opening with the
Scripture after which a hymn
was sung. Her devotion taken
from the Observer was entitled
"Why didn't those wise men
come back?" This interesting
article suggested that after this
experience each Christmas, each
of us are left to make our own
way and decision.
The roll call was answered by
the paying of membership fees.
Mrs. Helen Scane outlined the
Study on India, showing some
pictures and a list of records and
books available. She gave in-
teresting articles from the Free
Press written by Bill Stewart, a
reporter, who spent some time
last fall in India. He told of the
great contrasts between rich and
poor living so close to one
another. Only 2 percent of the
population of India is Christian.
Unit leader Mrs. Mildred Kyle,
outlined the highlights of the
Executive meeting. The World
Day of Prayer is to be March 2 in
the Anglican Church. The annual
congregational meeting and
supper will be held on January 24.
The meeting closed with the
benediction and a very in-
teresting contest was enjoyed. A
delicious lunch was served by
hostesses Mildred and 011ie Kyle.
Hensall W.I.
The January .meeting of the
Hensall Womens Institute was
held in the legion Hall Wednesday
evening, with the theme being
"Cultural Activities-Music".
President Mrs. Bev Beaton
presided, and after welcoming
members and guests opened with
an article entitled "Take time in
1973:'. The roll call with "My
favourite song" was answered by
19 members and 31 guests.
The program for the evening
was convened by Miss Greta
Lammie and Mrs. Jas.
McAllister. Miss Lammie led
everyone in a sing-song, and Mrs.
McAllister read a very in-
teresting article on "Trends in
music in the last 50 years".
Various piano selections were
played during this article. Karen
McAllister contributed two piano
solos; Mrs. Joyce Pepper and
daughter Brenda played a piano
duet; Linda Bell played three
short waltzes by the composer
Schubert, and read a life history
of him; Brenda Pepper played a
piano solo; and Debbie Consitt,
Sharon Finlayson and Sue-ann
Finlayson entertained by playing
the piano and singing,
Pupils from the St. Marys
Catholic School near St. Josephs,
and their Principal, sang a
number of songs in French,
which was thoroughly enjoyed,
Mrs. Janis Bisback gave the
courtesy remarks, thanking the
choir of St. Marys school in
French.
Arnold Circle
The January meeting of the
Arnold Circle Evening Auxiliary
was held at the home of Mrs.
Mildred Bell Monday evening.
The call to worship "Marching
off the Map" was given by Mrs.
Roy Bell. Arrangements were
made to visit the Queensway
Nursing Home on Valentine's
Day with treats.
A white elephant and bake
auction will be held at the
meeting in February at the home
of Mrs. Murray Bell.
The officers for the year are as
follows: president, Mrs. Roy
Bell; vice president, Mrs.
William Baker; secretary, Mrs.
Murray Bell; treasurer, Mrs.
Homer Campbell; flower fund ,
Mrs. John Baker; telephone
committee, Mrs. Ellis Stewart.
Chiselhurst U.C.W.
The January meeting of the
Chiselhurst U.C.W. took the form
of a pot luck dinner and quilting.
President Mrs. Alvin Cole opened
the meeting with a poem "A wish
for a New Year". The theme song
was sung, followed by prayer.
The worship conducted by Mrs.
Rosa Harris was "Can you laugh
at yourself". Short business took
place.
Mrs. Earl Dick had the
program and read a poem and
everyone joined in a sing-song of
hymns from the new hymnary.
The annual meeting for the
Chiselhurst congregation is to be
held January 25, with a pot luck
dinner at 12:30. The Bible study
was given by Mrs. Dorothy
Parker and was entitled
"Christian followers of Jesus".
Mrs. Cole closed the meeting with
prayer and the hostess 'for the
afternoon was Mrs. Ruth Brock.
Lodge holds
euchre party
A euchre party, sponsored by
the Rebekah Lodge was held in
the Lodge rooms last Friday
evening with five tables in play.
Nellie Riley won ladies high;
Vera Smale, ladies low; Howard
Lerrunon, men's high; and Mrs.
Maggie Compbell ( acting as a
man) men's low. Mrs. Fred
Slavin from Clinton won the lone
hands. A draw on a cushion was
won by Mrs. Ross Richardson,
and Jim McEwan won a box of
chocolates.
Four babies
are baptized
Rev. W.D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
church on Sunday and baptized
the children of Mr. & Mrs. Gerald
Volland, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Moir,
Mr. & Mrs. Roy Bell and Mr. &
Mrs. Garry Lawrence. Mrs.
Malcolm Dougall presided at the
organ and led the choir in the
anthem.

Nancy Riley of Kippen celebrated
her 96th birthday Sunday with a
family gathering at the home of
her son Nielson. Mrs. Riley is
enjoying excellent health. She is a
keen listener of western music on

The new West Mount
Presbyterian Church, 521 Village
Green, London is holding a
service of dedication to mark the
completion of its new church
building. The congregation is
planning the dedication service
on January 21 at 3 p.m. conducted
by the London Presbytery with
the actual dedication being
performed by the Moderator of
the 98th General Assembly, Rev.
Max Putnam D.D., special guest
for the day, The minister of the
church is Rev. John B, Fox, who
was a former minister of Carmel
Presbyterian Church in Hensall.

weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Theo
Flynn, Clinton.

Nancy Riley on her 96th birthday,

Huron was held in Knox Church
in Goderich recently. Those
attending from Hensall were

Mrs. Grace McEwan.
Hensall fireman were called
out quite late Saturday evening to
the Bob Reaburn residence on
King Street, when a chimney
from the fireplace caught fire.
However when fireman arrived
everything was in control except
for some unwanted smoke. '
Sam Dougall who has been a
patient in South Huron Hospital
was transferred to Westminster
Hospital London this week.
Mrs. Amelia Schroeder is a
patient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter.
Mr. & Mrs. Homer Campbell
are vacationing in Florida.
Mr. & Mrs. Percy Campbell left
last week on a motor trip through
the south to Florida.
David Leader who has been a
patient in South Huron Hospital
Exeter for the past several weeks
has returned home.
Kippen man
passes away
J. ROSS CHAPMAN
J. Ross Chapman, RR 3 Kippen
passed away in South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, January 9, 1973
in his 69th year.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Grace Coleman, one son,
Jim, Exeter; and one daughter
Mrs. William (Gladys) Talbot
Jr., RR 3, Bayfield. Six grand-
children also survive.
Funeral services were held
from the Bonthron Funeral
Chapel, Hensall, January 11, 1973
with Rev. Paul Packman,
Brucefield, officiating.
Interment was in Bairds
Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Jack Cooper, Pearson Charters,
Wilber Keyes, Russell Dallas,
Lloyd • McKenzie, and Jim
MCNaUghton.
Flower bearers were Sandy
Doig and William Caldwell.

The U.C.W. of St. Andrews
Church, Kippen held their first
meeting of the New Year
January 9. This meeting began
with a pot luck dinner to which all
the ladies of the congregation
were invited. Mrs. Harold Jones,
in charge of Worship, took as her
subject, "The Beginning of a New
Year."
Mrs. Finkbeiner, Crediton,
gave a resume on tape of the
address of Dr. Moses of India
given at Alma College. Mrs.
David Cooper gave a musical
number. Mrs. Wm, Bell, the
president, chaired the meeting
during which plans were made to
conduct the crafts at Queensway
Nursing Home in February. Mrs.
Keith Lovell is the key woman for
the World's Day of Prayer March
