Jets take over first place
head to Reno for gpmeS
in the Ontario Hockey Association
-Senior '"H" series and this
weekend are heading south on a.
hockey playing holiday in
Nevada.
The Jets scored three sue,
eessive wins this week to run
their season win total to 17 while
absorbing only four defeats.
Friday night, the Jets travelled
to Woodstock and squeezed out a
05 win over the Royals. Sunday
afternoon it was a come-from-
behind 5-4 victory over the
London Kings on home ice at
Ilderton and Tuesday night, the
Jets again downed the Kings this
time by a score of 6-3 at the
Huron Park arena.
The Jets, 17 players strong are
leaving Detroit airport Friday
morning at 9.40 for the flight to
Reno, Nevada. They meet the
Reno Aces in a two game
exhibition series Friday and
Saturday nights.
Whirlwind finish
Sunday afternoon, the Jets
finished in a blaze of glory as they
scored three goals in the last
three minutes and eight seconds
to post the overtime win over the
London Kings.
The excellent positional play
and persistent checking of the
Kings kept the Lucan-Ilderton
club bottled up most of the way,
With only a minute and ten
seconds elapsed in the first
sudden-death overtime period,
defenceman Bill Dunnell put the
puck into the London net, The
play was started by Dick
Doughty and Jack Nairn.
The tying goal with only 38
seconds left in regulation time
was also shot by a rearguard,
Jim Pinnegar. Assists went to
Dunnell and playing coach Jack
Nairn.
The Kings actually has a two
goal lead going into the late
stages. At 18,02, the Jets cut the
London lead to 4-3 when Bill
Bourne scored after Jamie Robb
dug the puck out of the corner.
After a scoreless first period,
London jumped ahead 2-1 in the
second period on goals from the
sticks of Ron Bloxam and Tom
Glover. Bill Fairbairn replied for
the Jets.
Early in the third period, Ron
Schwindt and John Boyd were
with shots for the
London club while Bill F'airbairn
notched his second of the game
for the L-I club.
Another slow start
It was the same story in the
game against Woodstock Friday
night with the Jets getting off to a
slow start. Former Jet Ron Ryan
of the Royals fired the only goal
of the first period on a rising slap
shot into the top right hand
corner of the net.
The second period was more
than 13 minutes old when the Jets
evened the score. Dave
Revington was on the firing end
as he took a pass from behind the
net from Pete Loveless. Jack
Nairn also assisted.
The Jets moved ahead 2-1 at
