Dear Sir:
I would like to say a big hurrah
for our government for its recent
decision to combat the use of
alcohol, and alcoholic addiction,
In addition, I would like to see
much stronger regulations for-
med to control advertising of
alcoholic beverages, especially
those in the area of TV and radio,
I like many others had not paid
much attention to these ads, until
my two-year-old sang me his
favorite beer commercial which
shows forth the product as the
answer to our problems and as
something we are not likely to
have a good time without, or, else
we just don't know what we're
missing, One particular ad was
presented on a Saturday af-
ternoon between a children's
cartoon show and a teen-agers
dance program, It was quite
obvious that it wasn't aimed at an
adult audience,
The ad that claims that I don't
know what I'm missing prompted
me to make a mental list of some
of these happy times. I realize
that most people do not ex-
dance and it was decided to have
cardparties throughout the winter
with Circle I responsible for
January. A motion was passed to
purchase a 100 cup coffee maker
for the hall.
The topic was Christmas
customs around the world with
several members contributing.
Mrs. Robert McCaughey led
everyone in singing several
Christmas carols.
Mrs. John Miller gave a very
interesting demonstration on the
art of candle making and showed
many interesting varieties of
candles suitable for Christmas
and other special occasions
throughout the year.
Secret pals for the past year
were revealed and gift-exchange
was enjoyed. A lovely Christmas
lunch was served by the
hostesses.

I have missed being under
arrest for killing someone with
my car because I wasn't able to
drive steadily; I have never had
to wonder how my children would
eat because I used the grocery
money at a bar; I have missed
paying extremely high insurance
rates because the judge thought
.09 impaired my driving; I have
missed hearing my wife trying to
explain to my children that I beat
them because I had been drinking
too much. I know I'm missing
having my doctor tell me that I
have ruined my physical health;
or that wonderful feeling of the
morning after the night before.
Some of the things I have not
missed are the higher prices I
pay for many goods and services
because of the loss of work-hours
by employees after a "gooa-
time" weekend, I have not
missed paying higher taxes for
rehabilitation of alcoholics, I
have enjoyed driving behind or

These are only a few of the
joyous times associated with the

could be greatly extended.

truth about alcohol, not just the
side that presents it as a magic
cure-all for a dull time,

In a system of democracy and
free enterprise, no-one should
favor total prohibition or banning
of advertising but I feel the
product has been grossly
misrepresented, and that the
government should take strong
steps to have these companies
advertise their product in full and
total truth.'
I am writing my member of
parliament in support of any
legislation which would control
advertising of these products. If
any of your readers agree with
me, I would encourage them to do
the same.

Nowhere is this more evident
than in Exeter, At Braemor
Manor, Mrs. Wilhelm, the
'hostess', her 'handyman'

concerned people and the fine job
they are doing is enhanced by
community support. Braemor

RE: STAFFING SECONDARY
SCHOOLS
Thank You
The Lambton County Board of
Education wishes to thank all those
concerned citizens who volunteered
to staff the high schools in the event
the agreement dispute involving the
teachers in our system was not
resolved by school opening in
January.
It now appears the matter has
been resolved.
We again take this opportunity to
express our thanks to all whose
concern and understanding in an
unsettled time was most appreciated.
