In two games just before Christmas the Jets defeated the Preston Jesters on two occasions The Jets were busy during the holidays coming up with four consecutive wins to bring their season point total to 28 on 14 wins and only four losses. The by scores of 9-3 and 13-3. Friday night, the Lucan- Ilderton club downed the Woodstock Royals by a score of 6- 5 and Tuesday night they squeezed past the Stratford Perths by the same 6-5 and score in Stratford, The Jets see action three times this week and will catch up on the Stratford club as far as the number of games played is concerned. The Perths go to Durham Friday night to meet the third place Hoskies. Friday night the Jets travel to Woodstock to meet the Royals, Sunday afternoon they will be at home at the Ilderton arena at .2 p.m. to the London Kings and Tuesday night they travel to the Huron Park arena to again meet the Kings. The London club was idle over the holidays. Take early lead In Stratford Tuesday night, the Jets built up a 4-1 lead by the end of the second period and were able to hold on to gain the 6-5 decision. Stratford scored twice in the last minute and a half to make the score close. Pete Loveless was the iscoring star for the Jets counting three times in the first half of the game to set the pace. Loveless notched the only goal of the first period at 11.19 on a power play with passing help coming from Jamie Robb and in territorial play in the Friday win over Woodstock they were forced to come back with foot- goals in the third period to post the 6-5 decision. The shots on goal record showed the Lucan-Ilderton club way out in front by 61-10. Lorne Deer was in goal for the Jets for the first period with Don Stewart taking over in the third, Stewart turned all shots away including a breakaway from former Jet Ron Ryan. Jacques Cousineau was the top Jets marksman with a two goal performance. Adding singles were Pete Loveless, Steve Proctor, Terry I3ourne and playing coach Jack Nairn. The Woodstock goals were shot by Don Jones, Bill Birch, Bob Boyle, Gene McLaren and Larry Hossack, a member of the Jets championship team of three years ago, Coach Ron Horn gets a shower after the Waxer victory fighting, the fans? THE VICTORIOUS CAPTAINS — Captain Bill Glover and Scott Pincombe proudly hold the grand championship third annual mite hockey tournament held during the Bill Fairbairn. Both teams went to the of- fensive in the final twenty minutes of play and the Stratford club outscored the Jets four goals to two but couldn't get the equalizer. The two L-1 goals were again on three-way passing com- binations. Dick Doughty shot the first one from the side of the net on a play originated by Terry Bourne and Doug Galloway. Steve Proctor was able to tip in a pass from Pete Loveless who got the puck from Barry Baynham at the point on a power play. The third period Stratford goals were notched by Les Burton, Ron Earl, John Campbell and Charlie Robertson. The Jets outshot the Perths by a count of 40-36 Ahead on Shots While the Jets held a big edge to work a little harder for those wins, Last night the Irish hosted Lambeth, on Sunday they travel to Strathroy and next Wed- nesday, Jan, 10 Strathroy will be at Lucan with game time 8:15 p.m, On January 20 they are holding a house party with proceeds to go to the Irish 6. I understand that the fans said last year that they wanted to see good hockey and less fighting. Well, this is what we have in this team this year. These boys go out to play hockey not to see how good they are in a fight. The team has a lot of faithful fans but there should and could be a lot more. WHAT IS YOUR excuse this year? I can almost hear people saying 'Yes that is very good for the young people. Maybe next time I will go to the game I just have to see a certain programme on the boob tube," Is it always just a hand full of people that are really interested enough in the team to get off their !!! to support these boys that are working to bring recognition to your community. Would you rather see these boys and girls out on the street looking for trouble. To date the team record is 8 wins 8losses and 4 ties, for 20 games and 20 points.
