The Best of The Century By ROB DATERS Exeter One hundred years ago I would like to have lived because you would be strong. Today you can sit around and live on wellfare, Today you can have more spare time. At Christmas time one hundred years ago you could go and sing and have a good time. Today people don't pay attention to carol singers. Christmas Eve Carolling By TAMMY BAKER Hensall Twas the night before Christmas When all round our cozy farm house Children were laughing and run- ning about. Mother was busy with her baking and such Father was reading not saying too much The smell of the cookies raced through our old house A tree dressed in splendor from the children's great touch. I hurried with the chores that I had inside For I really was quite eager to be outside I opened the door and the sleigh was out front And old Nelly was eager to go for a ride. The world was all blanketed in frosty white snow And everyone was loaded, all ready to go Old Nelly the nag was given her head To set the pace, my goodness no! We went round to the farm houses To play and sing too Because it was something we wanted to do. As they drove down the lane and out of my sight I heard them exclaim; MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT! rtromtcsmrsevsygrwAmes-qwwieet -Hofidaq Giteetag4 As we raise our voices in hymns of praise, let us hear the glory of His message. What I Think By LUCY VAN ESBROECK Precious Blood When I awake on Christmas morn, I sit and think of the Christ Child born,' It makes; me think of the years behind, Of Mary and Joseph, and Jesus so kind. I think of how Christmas has really changed, Like a small town growing, being rearranged. Christmas was giving long ago, I think it's great that it still is so. A town that lives and thrives so long, With a good spirit ending never, Is like the Christmas spirit, which 'lasts forever. , The Shepherds and Baby Jesus By JERRY SHAW Grand Bend The shepherds were afraid, When the angels appeared, Telling the news. Of the new born King. Angels said onto them. He is in a manger, In the town of Bethlehem, Under the big bright star." The shepherds went toBethlehem. Lead by the bright star. Bearing a gift of a lamb. For the baby in the manger. By DOUG RAYMOND Exeter Christmas today is celebrated with the giving of many presents. The children get toys seldom made of wood anymore. The adults get clothes and other accessories like vacum cleaner for housewives and a set of golf clubs for father. There is usually a big feast with all the relatives at it and they usually have turkey, duck or goose. By LAURIE ROSS Exeter I am writing about a Christmas when I was seven. I was living in Dresden Ontario. I woke up very early in the morning and went downstairs to find, as I expected, all the presents under our Christ- mas tree. I went into the kitchen to see if "Santa Claus" had ate the cookies and milk I had left him. Sure enough, there was the plate filled with cookie crumbs. I was making quite a bit of noise so Dad came down and told me it was 2:00 a.m. I went up to my bed and, try as I did, couldn't get back to sleep. Finally it was morning. I was downstairs first, like usual and hunting to see if I had the biggest present. I did. When everyone was up, I started slashing at the wrapping paper. By EDDIE HUNTER - DUVAR Exete r On Christmas 1971 at 12:30 p.m I went and dragged mom and dad out of bed. Leslie my sister and I hollered and yelled at them to wake up, so they did. We opened our presents at 5:00 a.m. After we went over to Ronnie Prout's house. He wanted to play outside and I did too. So, we went out and started to build a snow- man. Then some big guys came and broke him. They started to hassle with us but we tripped them by rolling in the snow and hitting them in the legs, That night, Ronnie, Janet his sister, Leslie, and I went to my house. We had hot chocolate that night. Then we exchanged gifts. Christmas Dinner By JULIE MOCK Hen so II Christmas is a jolly time, Giving and receiving gifts, And delicious turkey dinners, A big juicy turkey, Buttery peas and carrots, Creamy, mashed potatoes, And thick turkey gravy, Now comes dessert, Yummy Christmas pudding, Christmas is a very lovely time. What Christmas Means to Me By GREG PROUT Usborne Central Christmas is a very nice day, It's the spirt of giving all the way, Not the getting that I know, When it usally will snow. Children are happy and gay, Adults feel the same way, Everyone gives presents to mother, And we don't forget our big brother. 'Christmas Joys and Hopes By LORI RAVELLE J.A.D. McCurdy Dear Santa; I hope you bring A big, fat golden ring. I also like the gold round band, And all the stories from fairyland. The joys of Christmas are really fun, When you open your presents one by one. The Christmas tree is bright and gay. Gee, I wish Santa could stay, Santa Claus is big and fat, And I'm not the only one who's told you that. Think about it before you're fasting. Because the joys and hopes are everlasting. tt g ship,, loyalty and good will. This being so many things Especially the baby christ child Who lay in the dirty manger With a face so holy and mild. His mother Mary beside him sat The babies father, solemn behind And then shepherds and kings arrived They came from far and wide There was a bright shining star In the sky, angels were singing Home in their stable, an ox and a donkey Above the churches, bells were ringing So you see my friend, it isn't just presents, trees, and mistletoe The main part is really Jesus And the love for him we should show v.grca.14erftra?.ctilgttitqfdaN't4Nr, W.01.;14AtfO'cV4.1MOIR.;f0.W4.WA'PA.i a?U tfroF541gtEP:MqN.W!0"#'410‘PlY4OgIO'I;Ni.
