PHONE 228-6961 CENTRALIA 3 3 GENERAL CONTRACTORS - READY-MIX CONCRETE Heads of area councils list plans for next term By JACK DELBRIDGE Mayor of Exeter There are many projects I would like to see completed in the next two years but several will take some long range planning. For the immediate future completing the sewer project is a must. This project is now about half completed, Also we will need a lagoon to take care of the sewers. I feel a suitable building to house the town's works depart- ment could be erected on property on Nelson Street owned jointly by the towh and the Public Utilities Commission, We could bring all the equipment under cover, I am pleased with the new quarters secured by the fire department in the former Sunoco building, This is a good location and away from downtown congestion. In long range planning I would list storm sewers and recon- struction of sidewalks. One possible project for our Centennial year in 1973 would be planning of a senior citizens home of some sort for Exeter. I would ask everyone to get involved in Centennial and make Exeter's 100th year, the best one yet. Special thanks should go to the Board of Trade and everyone involved in the December 9 Santa Claus parade in making it a terrific success. In closing I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christ- mas and may 1973 be a prosperous year for Exeter and all its residents. By WILSON HODGINS Reeve Biddulph Township Two important programs that got under way in 1972 were the building of the Lucan-Biddulph Fire Hall and the passing of a Zoning By-law for the township. Both projects are expected to be completed early in the new year. When the Zoning By-law has been finally processed we will get an Official Plan for the Township in operation, Petitions have been signed and engineers appointed for five municipasl drains which we expect to construct during the summer of 1973. An applidation for a 28 home subdivision in the hamlet of Clandeboye is being studied by officials in Toronto. Some solution still has to be found for a supply of suitable drinking water for the Police Village of Grantorr? By GERALD WRIGHT, Reeve of McGillivray Township As another year rapidly comes to a close, we can look back over the year 'and see our mistakes and successes. One of the greatest challenges for our township in the next few years will be to fight off the system of regional government, A big step in prolonging this system of government from taking over would be to en- courage more citizens to get involved in municipal work and to take a greater interest in 41.11.1111.02,,,mipowirliirm'aurmau",m,ir WANTED Volunteer Drivers From Exeter, Zurich, Grand Bend, Crediton and Districts to drive patients to the CANCER CLINIC IN LONDON Contact Mrs. M. Phone 235-0450, Exeter or Dashvvood 237-3481 • finding out how the present system is being run, My biggest fear of regional government would be the lack of communication between the people and the elected officers, I feel that our council should keep a tactful eye open to the needs of our township and try and accomplish them while we still have a voice at the local level. In closing my wife joins me in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year, By JOHN J. PAYNE SR. Reeve of Grand Bend My policy for the 1973-74 term will be to continue to strive to make Grand Bend a better place in which to live and to play. I will endeavour to get all our interested people along with service clubs to work together to develop a winter program for young people to keep them oc- cupied and off the streets, At the same time I will do my best to make our village a year- round resort for visitors of all ages. A winter works application has been sent to Ottawa which would improve and develop ourproposed recreation area on property recently purchased from the Grand Bend Legion and Robert Jennison. Also on this project I would hope to improve facilities for our visiting boaters by supplying adequate washroom facilities along with barbecue pits and picnic tables. A turn-around at the west end of Main street would improve traffic congestion of motorists wishing to circle back without going all the way to the pier. I also will do my best to hold the tax rate as we have the past two years. A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. What Christmas means to me By KATHY LOVELL Usborne Central Christmas is a time for loving and sharing. A time for remembering the old days when you lived with out caring. Christmas means a time to meet the family and friends, And to go visiting right through till the Christmas season ends. After it's over you've packed enough memories in your head to last you another year. But in the eyes of you grand- mother or grandfather, Someone older than you there's a tear For they remember their childhood Christmases beter than any one of us They miss you when the Christ- mas season is over because they love watching you enjoy your self and especially they like making all that fuss I wouldn't trade my my Christ- mas season with anyone For I think this holliday is trully fun. ..ethfclairf 444 Main St, Exeter 11/100RE SMALLEY LTD.
